Chapter 8 Darkened Funnel

Persephone's POV

This has been fun getting to know who my.. mate, really is.. It's nice that he even wants to know about me.. To a lot of different species we, the fae specifically, are the dirt below their feet and the only reason they have even given us any attention at all is because of the prophecy stating they need a light creature to help destroy the dark.. But no one knows what kind of light creature, so if we can't help out whoever has captured us, the way they want, then they dispose of us one way or another.. So it's just strange to have someone of his stature, want to really get to know the being I am.. let alone being ok with me as his mate.. This all seems so crazy to me that something like this was even possible.. How he could even be so perfect and understanding of me and our unique situation?

He sits here spilling his feelings just describing to me, how much he feels like he has missed out on.. I can't help but feel lonely because of all the things I have been forced to experience because I was on my own and had no other choice.. Just wishing for a family and home but never having that security nor structure in my life.

But I guess anyone on the outside looking in is going to be jealous.. The grass is always greener on the other side. You just can't let the jealousy get the best of you.. It's ok to use it to motivate yourself for gaining something more in life, but you should never dwell on it. If you find yourself always wishing for more than you will never be satisfied with what you have.. and we have such little time on this earth, we need to make sure we enjoy the time we do have.

So we enjoy this moment by just relaxing and watching the Pegasus prance around without a care in the world. They have colts following close behind because their wings aren't strong enough yet to really go out on their own, so the parents of the colts just prance close by their babies, keeping a close eye just in case, as they graze and gallop around the area.

The wind really starts to pick up all around. Which isn't too suprising with all the clouds out.. but this wind has a type of heaviness to it.. It's hard to explain, but you can tell this wind is bringing a storm with it, not just the clouds. A boom of lightning takes everyone out of the bliss as we all look around curiously.. because this seems to be a very fast moving storm.

We can hear thunder in the clouds by a loud booming lightning strike right before, just showing us what's to come. The Pegasus are getting restless as they start to collect getting ready to fly away, probably the same way they came in.

"What's going on with them?" Jayce asks curiously as I softly answer, "They can tell the storm is coming and coming in fast.. They need to find a place to huddle up just to let the storm pass by.. to make sure they don't get caught up in the storm because they fly almost everywhere.. and as you can see there is not many trees to hide in around here, but at least there are some caves just in case.. but that's why they are probably going to get going soon." He glances down at me before nodding as we both continue to watch the herd collecting together before they leave.

Family by family start to take off, one after the other just as they landed before. They get pushed around by the strong winds but still looking as if they are making it through, just slower than expected.

The wind strength picks up tremendously pushing the Pegasus around before they can even leave the ground. We can feel the rain starting to pour now since it's flying from side to side because of the wind.

This even makes Jayce and I get to our feet, because the tree isn't protecting us from the weather either. We stand, watching the Pegasus get caught up in the strong winds and getting pushed back down to the ground, not allowing the rest of them to join the herd. They keep trying over and over again as the parents get up past the hard winds with the babies right behind trying to catch up. The mother turns around helping pull her babies up as much as she can as the father takes her lead trying to help but even with both the parents trying they can't get to all the babies. The one farthest behind gets caught in a whirlwind with the rain now pouring down.

I look over to see a huge whirlpool of wind and rain in the sky, getting bigger and bigger traveling so quickly across the ground connecting the land and sky as something I have never seen before.

I'm awestruck at some point until I see the wind and rain funnel turning darker and darker and taking out everything in it's path.. completely destroying anything in the way. It looks just like the little spinning whirlwind tornado I make Kai leave in everytime, but just exponentially bigger and scarier.

"We need to go now." Jayce says to me as I look at him in shock not knowing what to do or where to go.

"Come on Percy.. the caves!" He says as I'm still in shock not knowing what to say or what to do.. so I just nod letting him lead the way to the caves so we can try to take cover.

We are running across the open land as we hear whinnying from across the way. I look up to see the colts getting caught in the wind and thrown to the ground crying for their parents but they can't come to their aid. They do keep trying, but getting caught themselves as if the wind is a barrier.

I watch the babies limp across the ground, not knowing what to do, looking completely lost and confused on their own, as their parents try to reach them but can't. They are so close and yet so far.

I do the only thing I can think of, letting Jayce's hand go and turning into the storm running out across the land to the babies in need.

"Percy what are you doing?" Jayce yells at me from across the way as I just plainly state. "They need help and have no one, I can't just leave them!"

I watch the babies keep trying to jump and fly through the strong winds but it's just too much for their little wings to handle. I keep pushing and running until I get to one baby's side calmly talking with him and showing him the caves to hide in.. Doing the same with the second one that I can see.. They both gallop towards the caves and right past Jayce who is still making his way over to me.

We can see the dark funnel approaching as I turn around to follow the babies until I hear a loud screech. I look up to see another one of the babies falling down, spinning uncontrollably. I turn around flapping my wings vigorously as I push myself to fly through the air and colliding with the baby who has so much force behind it that we both are now flying towards the ground as I just try to brace myself for impact.

We smack and hit a hard surface, but come to find out that hard surface is my mate catching us. We all lay on the ground as I tell the Pegasus to join it's brothers in the cave. It prances away from us as I stand up, helping Jayce stand. He whips me up and into his arms, running full wolf speed towards the cave. "Thank you for catching us Jay." I say sweetly to him as he just smiles and nods before replying quickly. "Anytime."

I keep looking around the surrounding area, as I see a slow moving Kai in the distance.. his legs are short so he almost waddles but with no speed or haste to his step whatsoever.

I groan out as I get out of my mate's hold confusing him completely. I take off as quickly as I can with my wings and this wind. Once I get close enough to Kai I take the satyr into my arms flying back for the cave. I see Jayce running to meet me at the entrance to the cave.

We both barrel into the dark cave backing into it as much as we can, as I let Kai roll out of my arms to the ground. "Thanks Percy.. I knew you cared for me.." Kai declares following me around the cave as I just roll my eyes walking over to the colts.

"Just because I didn't want to see you get hurt doesn't mean I care for you like THAT Kai.. So don't think too much into that gesture." I inform him as he continues to follow behind me so I check out the colts, making sure they are not hurt.

"So since you love me enough to save me, does this mean you're finally going to be with me like I always asked? I told you we would make a great team, you and I." He smiles so big as I roll my eyes retorting. "Sure sounds like a plan.. How about you talk to my mate about that idea and see how he feels about it.. Then get back to me." I sarcastically state to him as he has confusion on his face before Jayce clears his throat from behind him.. really getting his attention.

Kai turns around as his eye go wide at the huge Alpha behind him. "Wait.. mate??.. Who is this freakishly tall and muscular wolf?" He stutters through asking.

"Kai, lovely of you to notice him.. This is my mate Jayce." Kai's eyes widen as his mouth opens and shuts trying to figure out what to say.

"Yes I remember, you're the satyr that won't take no for an answer.." Jayce states as Kai replies without hesitation. "Well 50 No's and one yes, still means yes.. am I right?" He elbows Jayce trying to joke as I roll my eyes softly touching the colts legs because one did get hurt in the panic.

"Well if it makes you feel any better, I thought it was going to take that many times of me asking her to come with me, before she agreed." Jayce states to him as they both chuckle and nod.

"So how many times did it take for a stud like you to convince her?" Kai asks curiously as Jayce states, "More than you would think.. I had to convince her she was my mate first, then ask her to come with me."

"Wait I thought mates could feel the connection between them." Kai asks with confusion as Jayce nods before adding. "She could feel it, she just didn't know what that meant. Nice to meet you Kai, I'm Alpha Jayce of the Moonrise Pack."

"Wow, an Alpha? Percy you're really moving up in this dark world.. bringing hope to us little people.. but don't forget about us when you become Luna ok? You know.. like setting a satyr up with some shewolves.. I have had my fairshare! But would always love more." He explains as Jayce laughs the most melodic baritone of a laugh that sends the strangest chill through my body at that sound alone, he then pats him on the back stating, "You're always welcome in my pack Kai.. but I can't promise shewolves."

"Oh the shewolves I can convince myself.. they love the little guy who appriciates a beauty when he sees it." He states winking at me as I roll my eyes, before he adds quieter then his last statement, "Faes aren't as easily convinced." Jayce and him laugh sitting down on the ground, closer to the exit of the cave, watching the storm get worse.

It's so loud you can't even hear yourself think. I can feel my heart beating out of my chest as I try to stay calm healing the colts of their small wounds as we try to wait the storm out.. until the funnel of rain and wind combined, flies past us so quickly, almost taking the whole storm with it as if it didn't even happen, but with the damage caused, you can tell it wasn't our imagination.

It's still lightly raining with some wind but nothing like the storm within the tunnel. We wait for just a little bit, making sure the storm has passed before all of us slowly exit the cave, taking a look around. The funnel is gone as if it was just a dream, leaving the only signs of it's existance behind, a huge trail of damage.

We can hear a horse whinny, gaining our attention as we see the parents calling for their babies because they're obviously worried for their safety. I lead the Pegasus out of the cave and pointing their parents out as they quickly flap their wings, leaving us behind to reconnect with their family before they get separated once again.

"Well I can't thank you enough for helping me Percy. Even though I know you won't admit you like me, but at least now I have conformation you do.. Even Alpha lover boy over there likes me am I right?!" Kai asks as he elbows Jayce again making him smile and nod.

"You're right Kai.. I do like you because without you, this world would be a little darker.. just a little.. That's all you're getting from me.. So don't think too much into it." I exclaim to him making him nod vigorously. "Oh yeah! I'm wearing you down baby! I love you too beautiful!" He yells with so much excitement as I groan and shaking my head.

"Goodbye Kai.." I take Jayce's hand into mine, pulling him away as he still chuckles and says over his shoulder. "See you soon enough.. I meant it when I said your welcome in my pack. just ask for me and my Luna.. since you're such close friends with her." He states as Kai waves and we leave the area, walking through the soaking wet grasslands just trying to get closer to his pack.
