(No one POV) "There will be a day when you will find someone really special. A person who makes your heart skips a thousand beats. A person whose presence will make you feel like you are the most important person in his entire life. A person you will be willing to trust and share all your weakness." The little princess had always grown up hearing the stories told by her hopelessly romantic mother. So it was no shock that the princess grew up dreaming to find her perfect mate and live happily ever after just like her parents. But then again fate doesn’t play according to your dreams and wishes. The man that stood in front of her didn’t have any love in his eyes. It didn’t sparkle like how her mother once told. It was void and emotionless. His face on the other hand showed nothing but disgust. He looked at her from top to bottom, scrunching his face. "A royal? Really? This is some kind of a sick joke right? Why on earth am I mated to a f*****g royal?!" the man said. The whole witnessing audience was shocked by the words that came from the younger alpha's mouth. "He is the queen's mate?!" "The queen found her mate!" "How can he speak to her like this?" "Well, you can't blame his reaction. The queen is a cold hearted woman." "This is a disaster." There were whispers all around. Some of them were even from the Queen's people. This was only supposed to be a ceremony that binds a rogue's pack to the Sothern territory. A contract binding with the rogue alpha and the Queen. One of her greatest achievements after being the Queen. But she never knew she would meet the one person she thought she will never have. Her young life was filled with love stories her mother shared. She dreamed of her knight in armor who would swoop her off her feet. A life filled with love and happiness. But the harshness of reality hit her hard when 3 lifeless bodies were placed in front of her. Her mother, father, and brother- dead from a carriage accident. Being just 15 she didn’t know what to do. She was never involved in the throne matters since her elder brother was supposed to take over the throne. She felt stupid, naïve, and like a failure. She felt useless. The elder council decided to pass the throne to her father's brother and she couldn’t even mutter a word against it. But then she came to know of how her family really died. Her uncle had planned everything out. Kill the King and his family and the throne is his. On discovering the truth she felt broken and defeated. Anger got the best of her. She became the merciless Lycan, killing the entire cousin's family before becoming conquering the title of the queen herself. The council was in rage and tried to go against her. 'A woman should never rule the 4 kingdoms. It's like an invitation for rogues to come and invade us." they protested. But she stood strong. She was able to get the approval and praise of the rest of the 3 kingdoms. "I like you. You are brave and strong. I see a true ruler in you. Worthy and strong. Besides, it was high time the old rules change. The whole concept of a woman being weak is getting boring." the north king had said to which the kings of east and west agreed. In the end, the Council had no choice but to go silent. With the support of the 3 Lycan rulers, she became the first woman to be crowned the ruler in the history of the four kingdoms. She trained and worked hard. She showed no mercy to anyone she found stabbing behind her back. She lost trust in anyone and everyone around her. Her heart was closed off. Her eyes only held judgemental stares. She ruled for her people and she ruled for her family. But then when she saw how crazy and uncontrolled he went when she was almost killed, she couldn’t help but smile. It was not the first time she was targeted by her enemies but it was really the first time she saw a person go crazy mad in wanting to protect her. Does she believe in love anymore? No. But that doesn’t mean she wants to let him go. In a life full of enemies disguised as friends' maybe she could trust this short-tempered man. So what if he was a rogue. So what if he doesn’t like royals. After all the things that happened in her life, she shouldn’t believe in Moon Goddess and the concept of mates. Yet deep down, there was this part of her containing the dreams and hopelessly romantic fairytales her mother had told her. "My dear mate." she kneeled down to the midnight wolf's level and put her hand on his cheek. His breath was unsteady and his eyes were wild. "From now on you will be my protector. This is the order from your queen." It will not be easy but she will make this man fall crazily in love with her.
