"Long story..." I muttered finally..and quickly, forcing a smile.
I couldn’t tell my sister in-law the whole truth.
I couldn’t tell her about Sukky.
Sukky's name was forbidden in this house. My big brother had made it clear...never mention that name or anything about him in front of Ava...
And.. I should know better than to disobey Shakur.
Ava, thankfully, wasn’t the pushy type. So she didn’t pry. She just... nodded slowly, though I could see the curiosity flickering in her eyes.
‘Like brother, like sister,’ she was probably thinking. ‘Both hide everything from me.’
I swallowed down the guilt, thinking of Ava that way.
Across from us, Daphne scrolled through her phone. With her face impassive.
