“I... I brought you something.". My mother said, her voice unnaturally cheerful trying to break the tension that had settled over us like a heavy fog. “You did?” I asked, forcing a smile. She reached into her bag and pulled out a velvet box, opening it to reveal a delicate ancestral necklace. The intricate gold chain gleamed in the light, adorned with tiny emeralds that had seen generations of women in our family. "This is beautiful, Mumma.". I whispered, running my fingers over the cool surface of the necklace. “And this..". My mother added, pulling out a small, neatly wrapped package. "This is for Shakur.". She said. My smile faded slightly as I took the wrapped package.. "What is this, Mumma?” I asked, eyeing the package as though it might bite. “Just a small gift for him..".
