Peter was surprised when I told him Edgar would stay with me. I thought he'd be relieved to spend more time with his mate, but he appeared upset. He had been arguing with me about it all afternoon when I told him. After dinner, he was still fighting me over it.
“Pat, are you sure about this?” Peter asked for the tenth time. “I don’t mind staying.”
“I think this will help both of us, and you can get sleep,” I said. “Edgar needs someone who understands; he shouldn’t have to deal with it alone.”
“You're still healing, too,” he said. “I think it’s too soon.”
“Peter, you just found your mate and haven’t slept through the night with her,” I said. “You shouldn’t waste your time watching me sleep.”
“I'm not wasting time; Nell understands,” Peter said.
“I will be fine,” I insisted
