11. What changed ?

As she reached college, she found her friends waiting for her.

"Why are you late today ?" Nina asked

"Actually, I was busy in something very important and secretive. " Andrea replied smugly thinking about her secret mission.

Lia raised an eyebrow. "Something very important ? "

"Like you were on some secret mission." Nina laughed.

" Something like that. But I will tell you guys later, not now." Andrea gave a secretive smile.

"Ok, leave it. Let me tell you something, we three got selected for participation."

Nina squealed.

"Yes, and that Jack too" Lia scoffed

Andrea was silent like a thief, since she has not asked Andrew yet to come in the event.

" Doesn't matter. Andrea, did you ask your guardian to come ?" Nina asked

"Didn't get to ask him. But I can assure you I tried my best. I will ask today for sure."

"How can we be sure ? We don't want to perform without you, you know that."

Lia complained.

"If I couldn't ask today, I will complete your next assignment." Andrea tried to convince them.

"Then we can be assured." Nina laughed

They all knew, inspite of being a bright student, she always finds ways to avoid assignments.

After that they went for classes.

Three friends were sitting in the corner table of cafeteria.

"Are you ready to tell us what's your secret mission, that made you late ?" Lia asked with interest.

"Yes" She whispered and gestured them to come forward and they did.

" But not today, I will tell you when time is right." She spoke loudly, then started laughing.

They both covered their ears glaring at her.

"Ok sorry, but I have to make sure few things first. Then if my guess is right and victim gets justice, then I will tell you guys." Andrea told them directly, to not make them angry.

Lia rolled her eyes in annoyance and scoffed turning her head other side "Like you are some lawyer."

"Leave it Lia. I think she is not ready. She will certainly tell us when time is right. She never hides anything from us."

Nina tried to reason out.

"Okay whatever" Lia scoffed.

Andrea smiled slightly at her childish way to display anger, like she didn't get her favourite candy.

"I was thinking to resume things which were left yesterday. But since you are angry with me. Leave it"

Andrea said smiling and winking at Nina, who was also trying to control her laughter.

As soon as Lia heard this. She hurriedly turned towards them smiling. But she saw them busy in their phones with serious expressions.

"Umm.. I am not angry. I can hear your story. Things should not be left in between, you know. " Lia told them clearing her throat.

"Ok so let's start. Where were we ?" Andrea didn't want to tease Lia further.

Both Lia and Nina moved their chairs closer to Andrea's hurriedly with excitement.

"You were telling us about your visit to his office, and he was feeding you, but you wanted to paint. I think you wanted to tell us why he couldn't have had any girlfriend in his office."

Lia told her with so much excitement.

Andrea flicked her forehead jokingly

"You are always ready to listen stories and secrets."

"That I am, but now start please." Lia told her getting impatient.

"So, after feeding me da.... I mean Andrew left for his meeting, while I resumed my painting."

(Andrea had called Andrew daddy for so many years, thus sometimes her tongue gets slipped. But she corrects it immediately.)

"Just after he left, his secretary entered in his office and started talking to me smiling. She told me, if I would help her to become my stepmom, she would take good care of me, and would buy me new toys." Andrea told them laughing.

"Then, what did you say ?" Lia asked

"I thought, since she wants to take good care of me, so why not. Thus, I said 'okay' . She stroked my hairs and told me that I should not sit on my daddy's lap and should eat by myself since I am a big girl now ."

" I knew, I was a big girl then since I was twelve. Many times I tried to sit separately and eat by myself, but he wouldn't let me do it. As she pointed out this fact, I was so embarrassed. I couldn't meet her eyes."

Flashback -

( "Who gave you this right to tell her what to do ?"

Suddenly Andrew's voice boomed in the office. He was standing at the door, fuming. She panicked and started sweating. I thought she is not wrong so I told him.

"Don't scold her. She is right, I am a big girl now." I said stomping my foot.

"No baby, you are not, and she won't be your stepmom " )

After that he dragged her and fired her infront of everyone. He warned everyone not to even think of approaching him, or manipulating me.

After that he cancelled his meeting and brought me home keeping me on his lap in his car.

I tried to get off many times saying I am a big girl now. But he just laughed and even fed me dinner at night. I was just sulking and pouting whole time."

Andrea told her friends smiling.

" Wow! This is so adorable Andrea. I wonder what changed" Nina asked.

Smile on Andrea's face faded slowly and she had a thoughtful expression on her face.
