P.E. CLASS

1478 Words
My school day went by in what felt like a rushed blur. I couldn’t tell you anything I learned, since I doubt I learned anything at all. I found myself unable to focus during the lecture. Instead I silently watched the hand on the clock tick second by second. I’m finally in my last dreaded period, P.E. While getting changed in the locker room I couldn’t shake the feeling that something felt wrong today. Was my nightmare throwing me off or was it leading up to something? I slipped into my navy blue basketball shorts and grey Tee with a sphinx on the front. How typical a mythical creature for a mythical school I rolled my eyes at the thought. While lining up Coach Jansen bitched and moaned about why he should be dealing with the students for P.E. He is none other than the Beta of the back, second in command. The alpha's right hand man. He stands at 5’11” with the shiniest baldest head you could ever imagine. His honeycomb eyes could stare into your soul and read your darkest secrets if you make eye contact for too long. Sometimes with his attitude I wonder how he ended up being mated to Marnie. The moon Goddess really does have opposites attract. There had been a lot of rumors circulating through the pack as to why he was forced to work with the students at the school. Some people say it is because Alpha Sam has had enough of his back talk that he wanted to teach him a lesson others say it is because he was asleep during his shift and a rogue broke through our barriers almost getting to the village. With everyone feeling so safe it would’ve been a slaughter house without any warriors being around. My money was on the second rumor but I couldn’t prove it to be true since I wasn’t there. Regardless it seems like a fitting sentence for him to serve. “I want ten laps out of every one of you! NOW!” Bellowed Coach Jansen. He blew his whistle that all P.E. coaches have, I swear I think it is a rite of passage to own one of those damn things. Off ran the whole class, each person taunting the next as they ran by each other. Running laps was always competitive as each wolf viewed it as a race. Not me though it was a way to escape and just zone into my thoughts. I was always the odd kid since I am supposed to be wolf less. While running on the dirt track it felt like my mind was running laps with me. I tried to focus on the silver gate that surrounded the training field. It was clever to install it to keep the students from attempting to ditch P.E. If you wanted to avoid running or sparring then you would have to sneak out of the school prior to this class. Once you were in and the bell rang they’d lock up the gate and you’d be trapped.   Something felt wrong within myself. I couldn't tell if it was something physical, mental, or even possibly spiritual. That’s when I felt something scratching at the back of my mind that made my head pound. I've gotten good at blocking unwanted voices from other creatures that attempt to get in my head but this one is annoying. I focused harder in an attempt to prevent it from breaking through. I focus on running faster and pushing my limits. Physical distraction can help block out the meddling voices that attempt to invade my mind.  I’ve used this technique before and it is normally a fail-safe and last course of action. In the smallest raspy whisper I hear ‘happy late 16th birthday.’ I nearly trip over my own feet at the voice capable of breaking my mental walls. I had trained to install barricades within my mind for years building it up brick by brick. I come to a slow stop, horrified I look around no one knows my birthday had passed just a couple of months ago. I mean how could they? They asked a few times in the beginning but stopped harassing me as the answer I provided was always I can’t remember. The whole Blackblood pack understands and even went as far as to make up a birthday for me. I try one last time to focus to stop the annoying intruder from entering my mind. "Jessalina! Get off my training field!" Coach Jansen hollered. Crap what did I do now? I ran over to the coach with my eyebrow c****d in curiosity. He never yells at me like that. Maybe I was running slower than I thought dealing with that pesky voice. I looked around noticing all the students had already completed their laps. Each of them laying in the grass or just standing around in their clicks talking amongst themselves. "Sorry coach, I didn't realize I was in the way," I pouted. I needed to play off so that I wasn’t distracted. I wouldn't want the Beta to know something was up. "You need to pay better attention to your surroundings. You completed your laps 5 laps ago. You are taking up my field for training with your mindless running." Coach lectured and waved me off with his hand. I nodded and walked over to the bleachers to sit and watch the students par off. There was something majestically scary about watching them fight in their wolf forms. I wish I could participate to tell you the truth. ‘But what IF you could? Wouldn’t you want to see the bloody path you would leave in your wake?’ the raspy voice entered my mind again. It almost sounded as if it was more than happy to cause chaos within my village. That's when I hear a sudden snap much like a broken rubber band in the back of my mind. The intruder has officially bypassed all of my barriers. I hear a small chuckle 'my turn to come out and play’. My whole body feels as though it’s on fire. I look down and see blisters forming over my arms. An agonizing scream that leaves my lips and I run for the forest I have tried so hard to avoid all these years. CRACK SNAP RIP!! I barely made it over the silver fence in time. My body was alternating, changing into something I have never seen before. Black paws with wire hair replaced my hands. Smoke emanating from my entire body. I ran for the lake. I had to stay in control, I couldn't let whatever this thing is take over completely. Running past trees on all fours as my body had transformed completely now. Running through the dread thicket as winter had just passed I could feel the woods attempting to scratch and rip at my skin but it didn't. It's as if they welted before me, unable to touch me. I could hear the howling in the back of my mind, strong, evil, begging for me to embrace it, just to let it win. I couldn’t let it succeed! I’m a witch for Devil's sake. Have I been cursed? Before I could make it to the lake five rouges came out from the trees. Each one that pranced out of their hiding spots was bigger than the next, however they were small compared to my form. Their disgusting rotting yellow teeth are attempting to snip at every part of me. Their fur was matted and falling out, like a dog that has mange. Looking into their eyes nothing but a sunken abyss, dull and pure black. There was not a human soul left within, the wolf had completely taken over. Forever to be animalistic and primal unable to return to humanity. The human wishing and wanting to be put out of their misery unable to complete the task themselves as the wolves wouldn’t allow them. The wolves wanted to live forever in their forms hunting and playing games with other creatures. The human and wolf are like the yin and yang, they balance each other but once the wolf is without his human counterpart, destruction and ruin take over. ‘Let me come out to play’ the voice sinfully pleaded. It wanted to kill all these sadistic wolves before me. I grimace at the thought of killing another creature. However, I knew I had no choice if I wanted to survive. ‘Kill them and let me return.’ I commanded. I did not want this thing to rule over my body for long. I did not want to turn into the evil souls I could feel before me. A loud howl comes from my throat and everything goes silent and dark, almost like sleeping without any dreams.
