Chapter 12

I was on my way towards the basement of the castle, only a few had access to it and I was one of them. Unfortunately, Malina too had access to that, that was the reason she was following after me and trying to stop me from opening the elder chest residing in the same basement. "You have to think it through Aurora, we don't know what is in that chest!" "I can't take it anymore Malina, you know how much that thing has haunted me, I have done so much to be where I am today and I don't want that thing to distract me now, so it needs to be opened and done with." We were both quickly moving through hallways of the castle as the guards watched us, stationed at different positions. We probably both looked crazy, almost running and yelling at each other. "What if there is some black magic in it that can kill you? What if what Oglo felt was just the tip of the iceberg? What will you do then? Are you seriously jeopardising everything for the silly dreams you have once in a while?!" I was too stunned to speak, or walk for that matter, so I abruptly stopped. Malina stopped behind me, I slowly turned around and looked at her with death in my eyes. I muttered a quick spell under my breath as I felt my power surfacing and making them known in my appearance. My pupils went over my head and the whites in my eyes turned completely red, as I felt myself burning, literally. Malina was quickly pinned on one of the walls surrounding us, as I seethed out in anger. I could see that she was struggling to breathe and muttering spells of her own too, so she could counter my spells, but her power was no match to mine and every spell she muttered was useless against the hold my magic had on her. "You seriously went there? You know how much I struggle with those nightmares, how much suffering I face after those horrid dreams. What do I see in them? You would piss yourself if you ever saw one of those beasts and feel what I feel. And then I will ask you what is silly and what is not" My voice was lower and heavier than before. Ever since I calculated that she was the one keeping an eye on me through those demon peasants, I've been angry at her. I want to ask her why she would do that, but I'm honestly scared of the confrontation. She had been an amazing friend for all of these years and I don't want to know why she would betray me like this. Remembering that Malina is, infact my friend, I released her from my hold and felt myself going back to normal, all the anger dissipating and replaced with guilt. I was acting too irrational. Malina fell down on the floor, clutching her throat and inhaling as much air as possible. This gave me a deja vu feeling. I did the same to Edward not long ago. I don't know what was becoming of me because of that chest and the stress it brings me. "I'm sorry Malina, I am really sorry. I will make up to you, I promise. Let me finish what I started though" And with that said I left her on the floor, giving her time to process what I just said and did.
