It's been busy these past days for everyone. It's my and Em's birthday party this weekend. We have celebrated together for as long as I can remember. I started to get dressed in training clothes, quickly throwing my hair in a ponytail and grabbing my water bottle before running downstairs.
“There you are, ready for training?” Em was waiting for me. I smiled, “Yes, let's go, ready to kick your ass again '' I said cockly, he laughed, damn I loved that laugh. “We will see about that, '' he said as we left my house heading to the border. We ran to the border before physical training. Our pack is not the largest, but it's also not small. Having 30 by 30 miles seems pretty large to me, but I guess it is also about the number of pack members.
“What's wrong with you, you're running slower than usual,” Ember said, slowing down to a jog to match my pace. “Nothing, just thinking,” I said before picking up my pace. We made it halfway through the first side when the alarms started going off. Em and I looked at each other before racing back to the packhouse.
The alarms were only used in emergencies, typically when we were being attacked. I only remember them being used twice. The first time was when we were attacked by an opal pack. We were too young to fight back then, and the next time was when Luna went into labor with Em’s sister and no one could get ahold of her dad. Getting out of my thoughts, I ran faster, almost faster than Ember. We reached the pack house and went to the alpha's office. I was allowed to do these things since they always believed I would be a beta.
Finally arriving at the packhouse, we both rush inside, running straight to Alpha's office. Reaching the office, there was a lot of rustling inside, with our hearts pacing faster than I'd ever felt. I went to knock on the door but Ember just barged in like his normal self.
“Father, what happened? The sirens never go off, is everyone alright?” Em yelled out the questions rapidly while walking up to his desk. I followed behind Ember but stopped in front of the desk, not comfortable going behind like him.
“Don't worry too much child, there was an attack on the southeastern border, but everything is fine. However, after your party, I think it will be best to send you to the alpha school I've been talking to you about.” I stood there shocked. He would be leaving me early.
“If you think that is better than, that's what I do, what about Win here? I want her to be my beta, do you think she can go?” my stomach jumped at his words. “ You told me that future betas tend to attend with their alphas.” Em continued. His father sighed. “ I don't think you should have a female as your beta. I have told you this so many times. When will you listen to me, son”. His dad said, “I think it's best if you leave winter”. I nodded and walked outside the room, heading towards the front door. How long had Em known that I wasn't going to be a beta? I love them but maybe I should think about going to stay in my mother's old pack for a while. Letting the thoughts leave my mind, I sighed as I began to run fast to the training grounds.
When I arrived at the training ground, there were already a few warriors training there, so I went to a private training room where Em allows me to train when I want to be alone or in training with him. I wrapped my hands in the wraps that were used to punch the punching bag. I had to punch the bag. Twenty minutes later I was sweating, trying to get my anger out that I had been angering at, which felt great. I was finishing up and unwrapping my hands when Em came in.
“Feel better?” Em said, I turned around and looked at him. “ You scared me, and yes I am feeling better,” I said walking over to him. “Well, rewrap your hands, I'm mad and we should both be training.” He said, starting to wrap his hand. I missed this. I rewrapped my hands and looked at him. “Let's do this so I can kick your ass,” I said with a laugh in my voice.
