Chapter 4
Pricilla chuckles, takes a step back, and shakes her head in disbelief. Did Dominic Lanchester just propose marriage to her? No. This is not happening. She probably heard wrong.
She looks him in the eyes, his blue eyes holding her gaze, telling her he is serious and that makes her uncomfortable.
Why her? She just got divorced and now the richest man in the country is proposing marriage to her? That is too much to take in.
She takes another step backward and slowly sits on the bed.
She laughs again and looks up at him. Her eyes dreamy.
“ why?” She asks, intrigued.
“ Why me? A divorced woman. A man as powerful and wealthy as you wouldn’t go for someone like me,” She says. She didn’t know Dominic Lanchester was a big jester.
Dominic resists the urge to chuckle. He is dead serious and doesn’t want her to think he isn’t. He has never proposed marriage to any woman before. She is the first and he has his reasons for wanting to marry her. He has his plans for wanting to marry Priscilla Herman.
“ Don’t you want revenge on your ex-husband?” He asks her. He believes every woman in her shoes will want to bring their exes down. Priscilla tastes bile in her throat at the mention of her ex-husband.
“ Of course,” She answers, not hiding her hate and anger.
“ But, I write my heartbeat now. I no longer give it away easily,” she states, crossing her leg over the other, and Dominic smirks at her words and pose. She is not only intelligent but witty. A perfect match.
He takes a step forward and folds his arms on his chest, exuding an aura of dominance and something else that makes it difficult for her to breathe.
“ I am not asking for your heart, Miss Herman,” She gulps when he addresses her by her last name. Her thighs suddenly rubbing together.
“ I am asking you to marry me.” He says firmly, as if he isn’t giving her any option to say no but Priscilla knows she has options. She has learned how to say no and how to say yes.
Marrying Dominic Lanchester is every woman’s dream.
Hundreds want to be his baby mama and get child support from him and apart from that, they want to have his children because of his genes. He is sinfully good-looking. Mere looking at him can get one pregnant and Priscilla won’t deny she once had a crush on him in middle school. There is even a rumor that has been going on for the past two years. It says, Dominic Lanchester is gay and that is why he hasn’t married a woman or birthed any child. Some even say he is impotent and that has left these women disappointed. But because women wants him doesn’t mean she does. He is rich, handsome, and powerful but he doesn’t look like he will be a faithful husband. Simon isn’t half as handsome as him but he still cheated. What guarantee does she have that he wouldn’t cheat?
“ Why me? There are thousands of women who would want to marry you in a heartbeat. Beautiful, wealthy, and educated women. You can have as many as you want. But why me? Is it because I just got divorced and vulnerable?” She asks every question that pops into her head and Dominic watches her in amusement. Of course, he is not going to force her if she says no. She just happens to be the perfect match for him.
“ There are thousands of women out there but I chose you, Priscilla. I want you.” Her heart skips at his last three possessive words. What does he mean by that? She blinks and exhales slowly and quietly. Heat surges through every part of her body.
“ Simon Walter stole from me when he was handling my company finance department. I am convinced you know that Clark’s Co-operation, Helen’s Co-operation, and others are all subdivisions of Lanchester’s group of companies. He has been appointed the managing director of Clark’s Co-operation all thanks to you. From finance desk worker to Managing director. Isn’t that huge?” He pauses and watches her expression.
“ I discovered after finalizing the contract that he has been embezzling money from me but I couldn’t just cancel the contract and kick him out without proper pieces of evidence. He is my nephew and besides, you earned the contract. So it won’t be fair to you,” Priscilla gasps at his words. Simon has been stealing from his boss? And his boss is his uncle? So Dominic is the uncle he talks bad about at every given opportunity?
She quickly closes her mouth acting less embarrassed of her shocked reaction and holds her head high.
“ What do I get in return?” She asks, her voice firm. She knows Dominic doesn’t need her to bring Simon down. She knows he can do that with a snap of his fingers. There must be something else but does that matter right now? What other revenge can she have on her ungrateful ex-husband other than marrying his Trillionaire uncle whom he badmouths at every opportunity?
Dominic chuckles. Is marrying him not enough? Of course, he has more to offer her than just being Mrs. Lanchester.
“ Wealth, power and freedom.” He answers and Priscilla’s eyes narrow as she didn’t want to widen them and reveal her bewilderment. She coughs and clears her throat.
Wealth, power, and freedom. This is her only ticket.
She throws her leg to the floor and stands elegantly, holding her head high and looking him in the eyes.
“ I will marry you, willingly but under my terms. I write my heartbeat now.” She tells him, sassily, accepting his proposal and Dominic’s lips curl up in a triumphant smile as if he has won a jackpot. Perhaps, his wait was worth it.
He reaches for his pocket and brings out a blue ring box. Immediately he opens it, the sparkles make Priscilla cover her eyes with the back of her hand.
Amazed, she stretches her hand forward, she feels a sensual sensation travel up her arm as his fingers graze against hers and he slips the cold ring onto her finger.
Meanwhile, At Clark’s Co-operation - 4:05 pm
The employees are gathered in the boardroom, an intense meeting going on. As the first managing director of the corporation, Simon wants to set his own rules. To him, it is just a matter of time before he finally becomes the CEO of Clark’s, especially with Emma by his side. She is not just an ordinary woman like Priscilla, Emma is the daughter of Charlie Lincoln popularly known as Mr. Jones - a wealthy and powerful client of the Lanchester group of companies.
The employees nod their heads in understanding at his question. They all seem to be okay with the rules. Emma snuggles close to Simon and whispers in his ear.
“ Want to have dinner at my family’s?” She asks, eyeing the employees who peep at the couples from the corner of their eyes.
“ Sure,” Simon answers, caressing her cheek before planting a kiss on her lips when they hear murmurs amongst the employees. They thought it was their usual murmurs about their PDA but it wasn’t as they are not looking at them but pointing at the TV.
Simon turns his head to the TV and his eyes and lips read the worst news he’s ever read or heard.
The headline reads: THE 33-YEAR-OLD TRILLIONAIRE BACHELOR, DOMINIC LANCHESTER IS OFF THE BACHELOR MARKET AS HE GOT ENGAGED TO PRISCILLA HERMAN EARLIER TODAY..
Simon’s face pales, his hands clench into fists by his side while Emma’s face turns green, her heart-wrenching in her chest.
