(Julia POV) My report excuse had flopped, but his stare lingered, sharp and heavy. Now I lingered too, needing to drop these off, my breath shallow in the quiet hall. The door was cracked, voices slipping through, Sophie's, icy and cutting. "You're never here for me, Andrew!" she snapped, sharp enough to make my stomach twist. I didn't belong here, an outsider in their world. His voice came low, clipped. "I'm busy." "Busy," she mocked, bitter. "Always busy. I'm not some side project." I shifted, files digging into my arms. My heart thudded, I shouldn't hear this, I shouldn't care. But her tone, her anger, it pinned me there, a stranger peering into their mess.
