JULIA POV
After Sophie’s exit. The apartment felt quiet. Julia busied herself in the kitchen, clattering dishes more loudly than necessary, her nerves fraying with each sound. Andrew’s presence felt heavy and unmovable. She could feel his presence around her. It could be compared to a storm cloud that refused to pass.
Jake being the one to first break the silence.
“Mommy,” he asked softly, tugging her sleeve, “can he stay and play dinosaurs with me?”
Julia froze. She glanced over her shoulder. Standing in her living room is Andrew, he looked laidback with his tie askew, his jacket at the back of the couch, his sleeves rolled, he looked as if the weight of the last twenty-four hours demanded it.
His eyes met hers, hopeful but uncertain. “Only… only if you feel okay with it.”
