Maybe I should have stayed with Max and the others in the garden. Let them distract me with whatever little charade they had planned instead of charging into the lion’s den like some reckless fool. But no, my stupid, stubborn temper got the better of me, and now here I am—fresh out of that nightmare of an interrogation, feeling like I’d barely escaped the jaws of the big bad wolf.
At least Alex didn’t lose it in there. I shudder to think what might have happened if I hadn’t been there to keep him grounded.
