Chapter 5David woke to the sound of breaking glass. His first thought was of the kittens. No, his first thought had been of a break in, but kittens made a lot more sense. He climbed out of bed, slipping into a pair of pajama bottoms from his drawer—something he wouldn’t have bothered doing if he hadn’t had house guests—and stepped out into the hall. He could hear white noise coming from his sister’s closed bedroom—something she’d slept with for as long as he could remember—and saw a glow from down the hall. So maybe not kittens.
