Chapter 7Scott had offered to drop him off at the apartment, but Oliver had declined. Instead, he watched Scott climb into his car and disappear up the street before, once again, scheduling a ride with his borrowed credit card. It pulled up twenty-minutes later, plenty of time for the cold to seep into Oliver’s bones. At the apartment, he grabbed the elevator up to the fourth floor, and was glad when he finally let himself inside. The place was quiet. But unlike that morning, that silence didn’t feel oppressive. He felt lighter now. Being out had helped. Even seeing his ex had. But it was the quiet car ride back that had settled his mind.
