**Zelene** The days after Damian’s visit were a whirlwind of emotions. He’d left without explaining much, and though he’d promised to stay in touch, his calls were sporadic and brief. Each time we spoke, I could hear the tension in his voice, the weight of something he wasn’t sharing. It was frustrating, but I didn’t push. I wanted to trust him, to believe that he’d open up when he was ready. But the uncertainty gnawed at me, leaving me restless and on edge. Mikey, on the other hand, was thriving. His soccer game was coming up, and he’d been practicing nonstop in the backyard. Watching him play, his face lit up with determination, made me feel like maybe, just maybe, we were finally settling into our new life.
