CHAPTER 16

CATHERINE :
I have been practicing for two weeks and today is the race. I'm excited. I woke up and got ready in record time. Edward is already up and went to meet his dad. I stepped out of our room and Danny is there along with Zach. Those two became friends in these two weeks. I don't know how but they did. From wanting to rip each other's throats to friends in two weeks. That is a miracle. Ari appeared out of nowhere and dragged me from my room along the corridors to her room. She gave me a dress and ordered me to change. After she finished dressing me up we went into the garage and got into Zach's car and he drove us to the race track. There are so many people outside and there is a lot of noise. I didn't see Edward anywhere. We walked to the pit stop and finally the race is going to start in twenty minutes. I sighed and took some deep breaths. It's been a year and I got better than before these two weeks but I'm nervous. I want to win this race for Edward. Every year this race is held here and a guy Adam always wins it. It's been like that for the last five years. I will change it today I thought determined.
Edward came when everyone wheeled my car out and left. Zach stayed back to watch over me. He hugged me tight and kissed me and soon I got distracted until Zach cleared his throat. I smiled at him.
"Time to go."
"Right."
I hugged Edward once again and he kissed my forehead.
"Be careful. And good luck."
"Always am. Thank you."
I walked out along with Zach and saw the track. It looks different from when I was practicing. People were everywhere screaming and waving to their favorite racers. They announced my name and everyone cheered for me as I am their princess. When it is Adam's turn the cheers were louder than I thought. He is behind me with his car. He smirked at me mockingly and I got mad. Let's see who wins buddy. I got in my baby and felt the familiar rush of adrenaline.
"Don't let me down, baby. Let's win this race for Edward and show that Adam who is better."
I murmured to myself and then the referee waved the flag and we were off. It's a 12 laps race. I was the first to finish the first lap and Adam followed close behind. Danny kept informing me of the people racing with me. After the fifth lap Adam overtook me and is in the front. I heard the people cheering him in the background.
"Not gonna happen buddy. You are not winning this year."
I was behind him for the next 5 laps. It's the final two laps. I already made a pit stop so no need for another. I tried to overtake him from left but he didn't allow me. I tried from right and he blocked me again. I'm getting frustrated. I calmed myself and tried to find a way to overtake him.
"Cathy, you have to overtake him now or else you can't do it later."
"I'm trying, Danny. He is not giving way."
"There is a turn up ahead. You can overtake him there."
"Sure."
"The turn is up ahead."
"Got it."
He slowed his car a little as the turn is a little big but accelerated.
"Go high now, Cathy."
My car tipped to a side due to the speed but I controlled it and made it out of the turn. I went full speed after that. I saw Adam's car behind me.
I saw the flag up ahead. The race is about to finish. I saw Adam's car in the rear view mirror. He is trying to gain on me. Finally I went past the flag and finished the race. I came to a stop near Danny. Once I got out Danny hugged me tight.
"You did it. You did it."
"Yes. I did it."
Zach hugged me after Danny.
Edward walked towards me and I hugged him tight. I heard distant sounds. His smell made me dizzy.
They called me to take the cup for winning the race. And I saw Adam glaring at me from the corner of my eye. I shrugged it off and went to take the cup. After taking it I held it up and suddenly there are cheers everywhere. People are shouting my name.
"It's our princess, Catherine. She won the race and beat Adam's five year record. A big applause for our princess."
I heard people shouting my name and Edward kissed me right in front of everyone and I forgot everything. We went out to celebrate but this time we have Edward and Zach instead of Emily and Trevor. It's like a tradition. We always celebrate after the race. Later that night we reached the palace and went our separate ways. We reached our room and Edward carried me inside.
"So, that thing is for you."
"What thing?"
He is kissing me so obviously he forgot everything.
"The race I won today. It's for you."
"Well, then I guess I have to thank you properly."
I looked at him and he smiled that beautiful smile of his and I know what is coming next.
I woke up in the middle of the night and ran into the bathroom and emptied the dinner I ate. I can feel Edward watching me. He pulled out his mobile and called someone. I can hear him clearly.
"Zach? Yeah it's me. Can you please get the doctor to my room?"
"No, everything is alright. Just get him here. I think Cat got food poisoning."
"Ok."
I got up and brushed my teeth. Edward helped me to the bed and laid me down. After a while I heard a knock when I am starting to doze off.
"Come in."
Zach entered the room along with the royal family doctor. Edward shifted on the bed to a side and let the doctor check me. Zach just stood at the foot of the bed watching me. He checked me and took some blood and left after a while saying that he will be back in the morning with the results. He gave me something to sleep and I slept after taking it but I got to the next morning that Edward didn't sleep the entire night. He just sat there and watched me thinking that something is wrong with me. The next morning the doctor came around nine with the results.
"So, what's wrong with her, doctor?"
"Nothing's wrong with her. She is alright."
"Then how come she is puking?"
"Let me finish. It's quite common in her condition."
"What condition?"
"You are going to be a father, your highness."
It took a while for that information to sink in and Edward broke into a huge smile. He hugged me tight and kissed me in front of the doctor. I smiled thinking that I'm going to be a mother. There is a baby growing inside me.
"Congratulations man."
I heard Zach from the door. The doctor left after telling me what to do and what not to do and then Zach ran out of the room and a while later returned back along with Mom, Dad and Ari. They are all grinning and Mom and Ari hugged me tight congratulating us.
"We are happy for you two."
"There is going to be a baby to play with. If it's a girl then we will be best friends."
Ari squealed really loud.
"What if it's a boy?"
Zach questioned. She thought for a while.
"Well, then I will dress him up as a girl and we will be best friends."
Everyone laughed at that.
"No way. No one is dressing my son as a girl."
Zach laughed at Edward and they left us alone after a while.
"I'm going to be a dad."
He repeated it for a while and then kissed me.
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For everything. For coming into my life. For staying with me. For giving me a chance. For loving me. And finally for making me a father."
He kissed me again and soon one thing led to another and we are lost in our own world. News like this travels fast. The next day the entire palace knew about that and everyone is smiling at me and congratulating me. The entire country knew by the end of the day. They all are happy for us and are celebrating for their new prince or princess. I want a girl but Edward is saying that he doesn't care as long as the baby looks like me.
