CHAPTER 5

CATHERINE :
I ran out of the room and ended in the library again. I don't know but my legs brought me here. I sat with my back to a wall and started crying. I finally reached my breaking point. I cried for everything happening in my life, I cried for my mom and I cried because my dad never loved me or took care of me after mom's death and for all the other things happening in my life right now. I felt someone sit beside me and lifted my head to see Henry sitting beside me with a worried look on his face. I wiped my tears and smiled up at him. I'm not weak I repeated this to myself.
"What happened, kid?"
He asked concerned for my well-being.
"Nothing happened."
I lied and tried my best to look like nothing happened. He hugged me and I broke down crying once again. I cried into his shoulder and he just held me like that. After a while I calmed down and he released me and wiped my tears. After my breakdown I'm feeling a lot better actually.
"What happened? Did some one hurt you or say any thing to you?"
I just shook my head.
"Then what happened?"
I don't know why but I trusted him. I told him everything that happened from the day I went to Vegas with my friends to having an argument with Edward awhile back. He didn't say anything just listened to me patiently. After I finished he looked at me and smiled.
"I know that what Edward did was wrong. But you have to give him a chance. I mean you can't get a divorce. Edward's dad I mean the king would never allow that to happen as it's unheard of to divorce in the king's family. And moreover the king likes you so much. He thinks of you as his daughter. Edward is good guy once you get to know him better. He just doesn't like to listen to his father sometimes and acts out."
"The king didn't even see me till now. How can he like me?"
"He heard from the queen and his daughter about you. And the queen already loves you. And what's not there to like about you. You are such a sweet child."
I blushed and nodded at what he said. I mean my dad never gave me any suggestions regarding anything. Either Emily or Danny would tell me things and give me suggestions. I hugged him again and got up.
"Thank you, Henry for your advice and guidance."
He smiled at me and I left him there in the library and started walking towards Edward's room. I entered the room and looked for Edward. He was standing out in the balcony staring out into the garden. I tiptoed my way into the bathroom and closed the door behind me. I don't want to face him just yet if he is angry with me for hitting him again. Just then the door opened and Edward was standing there.
"I'm sorry for what i did. . . "
He trailed off and stopped in his tracks as he got a good look at me.
"Are you crying?"
"Um..... no."
I know I shouldn't have lied. Any one can say that I was crying from my puffy and tear stained face. He walked towards me.
"I'm sorry."
He said sincerely all the while looking into my eyes. Wow, is he the same guy who behaved arrogantly with me all these days. He surprised me by hugging me.
"I'm really sorry."
I didn't say anything and just stared at him.
"So, do you forgive me?"
I thought about what Henry told me and the change in Edward. I can give him a chance right if I'm stuck in this marriage. I should at least try to make it work if there is no divorce in this family. Well I guess I know my answer. I'm ready to give this marriage and Edward a chance. I finally gave him a reply.
"Yes."
"So, friends?"
He grinned at me and held his hand out to me and I stared at the hand and him for a while then I surprised myself by placing my hand in his.
"Sure friends."
We went into the room and sat on the bed. There is an awkward silence between us for a while. After a while he started talking.
"So, tell me about your family and your friends."
I tensed. I don't want to talk about my family with him. Not yet and definitely not now.
"You tell me first. Then I will tell you."
I diverted the question towards him. He noticed that I avoided answering him and looked at me for a few seconds then sighed at last.
"Fine. But you are next."
He relaxed on the bed beside me and started telling about himself and his family and his childhood.
"Well, as you know I'm a prince. I usually got what I want from when I'm a child. So, I turned arrogant and spoiled like you sometimes call me. And I love my family a lot. I mean it looks like I hate my dad to everyone but I love him. I just don't like following his orders like others always. He always orders me to do this and that. I just get frustrated with him and do the exact opposite of what he told me to do. I love my mother. She is the coolest mother anyone can have. She is usually calm about everything but if you make her angry beware as she will erupt like a volcano. Dad is on the receiving end of that anger a few times and let me tell you he gets scared too. And finally my little sister Ariella, well she is the baby of the family and we pampered her a lot. But she doesn't behave like a spoiled brat. She is really nice and a genius. And I'm really overprotective about my sister. And then, Zach is my best friend ever since I can remember. We grew up together. And um..........there is nothing more to tell. Now it's your turn."
I just looked at him not willing to tell him about anything. But I have to, I promised him that if he tells me about himself then I will tell him about my life. So, I cleared my throat and started telling him about my life.
"Well we are a small family. My Dad, Mum and me. I don't have any siblings. Dad is a business man as far as I can remember. And I live with him. My m . . mom died when I was 13 in a car crash. And I have three best friends...."
Just then my phone started ringing. I looked at the caller id and groaned.
"Who is it?"
Edward questioned trying to peek at my phone.
"Speak of the devils. My best friends."
I pressed the answer and waited for Danny to talk. I know they will all be together at this time and I think they finally found that I'm not home so they will called me together.
"Where the hell have you been?" Danny shouted.
I flinched at his loud voice.
"We were worried sick about you."
Emily also shouted along with Danny.
"What were you thinking not answering your phone? Why the hell do you have it if you are not planning on answering our calls?"
Both of them were ranting non stop and I can hear Trevor in the background trying to reason with them.
"Guys, let her explain."
Trevor finally shouted and got a word in. Thank god or they will continue ranting and scolding me. There is a sane person in our group or really the mature one in our group. I think Trevor took the phone from them and I guess he kept it from out of their reach as I can hear Danny and Emily fighting for it. Finally after a while I heard Trevor.
"Where are you Cat? Why are you not answering your phone? We are worried about you. And these two are going out of their minds with worry."
I bit my lip. I can't lie to my best friends. But I can't tell them the truth either that I married a prince and I'm currently in the process of making friends with him. If they know how Edward married me they will surely try to kill him or most probably maim him. They will not care that he is a prince. Emily and Danny will take it as a challenge.
"Um........, Trevor, I can't really tell you where I'm right now. But I assure you that I'm safe. I'm actually not in our country anymore."
"What?"
"I'm safe. Nothing is wrong with me. I promise. I just can't tell you right now. I actually met someone in Vegas and I'm with him now. I will tell you guys everything when we meet in person."
"Him? Are you sure you are alright?"
"Yes. I'm perfectly alright. Will talk to you later. I have to go. Love you and tell them I love them too."
"Ok. As long as you are alright. Love you too."
I heard Emily and Danny screaming I love you to me through the mobile before Trevor ended the call and I sighed with relief that Trevor is there when Danny and Emily called. I really don't know how to tell them about everything. I mean I'm gonna get married again in a month. I have to ask Emily to be my maid of honor. And I have to tell Emily, Trevor and Danny who are a bit over-protective regarding me about what really happened. We tell each other everything and never keep secrets. I turned towards Edward who is sitting beside me patiently and noticed that he was looking at me.
"Why did you lie to them?"
"I did not actually lie. I just did not tell the truth. There is a huge difference between the two. And they will freak out if I tell them that I got married in Vegas. So, it's better to tell them everything in person rather than on phone."
"You are right."
"Yes, I'm right and they will kill you once they know everything. They will not care that you are a prince."
"Ah, hell."
He muttered under his breath. He suddenly looked at the time and stood up cursing.
"Sorry but I have to go to an important meeting. Will talk to you later."
Saying this he left the room in a hurry. I sighed as he forgot our previous conversation. I then went in search of the queen to spend sometime with her.

A week passed since I had that conversation with Edward and we became friends. We normally talk when he had the time between his duties and we walk in the garden in the evenings. He was kind of busy with whatever princely duties he had. Emily, Trevor and Danny call me everyday to make sure that I'm alright. The queen, I mean Edward's mom took me shopping along with his sister Ariella. They were so sweet and down to earth for being royalty. She bought me so many things and we have to start wedding plans soon. I thought of having my friends here for the wedding but didn't ask Edward thinking that he will refuse saying that it's not possible. We are talking with each other and are friends but not that close that I will ask him about my friends. Maybe I can mention this to the queen or Mom as she requested me to call her mother.
Edward said that he had a surprise for me today and I can't wait to see what it was. He never gave me anything before today. So, I was waiting for whatever it was. Suddenly my room doors opened and my three best friends who were more like a family to me were standing there and grinning at me. I screamed their names and ran towards them and hugged Emily at first then Trevor wrapped me in his arms and lifted me off of my feet and gave me a bear hug. Finally Danny looked a bit angry with me for not greeting him first but when I hugged him he wrapped his arms around me and smiled at me. We are just sitting down when there is a knock on the door and Stephen my personal bodyguard opened the door and came inside.
"Cathy."
I asked the guards and the palace staff around here to call me Cat or Cathy. They argued at first that I'm their future queen and how they can't call me by my name but I am stubborn and finally I got them to call me by my name.
"What is it, Stephen?"
"Your father is in the waiting hall and want to see you. It seems he can't stay and has a meeting so he has to leave soon."
I didn't answer Stephen for a while. I blinked a couple of times and finally found my voice to answer. What is he doing here. I thought he will be happy that I'm not living with him anymore.
"I will be there. Thank you for informing me, Stephen."
He nodded and then left.
"Do you want us to come with you?"
Emily asked concerned.
"No, I'm alright. I can handle him."
I told them pretty confidently.
"We will go to our rooms and meet you for dinner then."
I just nodded my head and they left the room. I took some deep breaths and silently made my way to the waiting hall.
