New Strength

Samantha returned home from school. After she had spoken to Chris earlier with encouraging words, Chris then decided to walk her home. At first, Sam was against it because she was afraid the shadow person might show up, but after much persistence from Chris, she agreed, and they walked home together. --- She woke up feeling more energetic and happy about seeing Chris at school today. She arrives at school and observes the atmosphere and smiles on her face. Even her best friend Emma couldn't explain why she was so excited early in the morning. The same buzzing noise of students filled the air, and the scent of freshly cleaned floors brought a sense of bitter-sweet emotion. Sam folded her fists, her determination grew stronger than ever. This was her second chance. She had failed before, but she wouldn’t let history repeat itself. This time, she was going to save Chris. --- Sam’s first task was to find Chris and start fresh. She headed to the music room, knowing it was his favorite place to hang out. As she entered, the sound of a guitar filled the air. Chris was sitting on a stool, striking his instrument with a look of concentration on his face. “Hey, Chris,” Sam called, keeping her voice steady. Chris looked up and smiled. “Sam! What brings you here?” Sam shrugged, trying to seem casual. “Just thought I’d check in on my favorite musician.” Chris laughed, setting his guitar aside. “Flattery will get you everywhere.” Sam joined him, sitting on a nearby chair. For a moment, they sat in comfortable silence, the music flowed in the air. “How are things going with the band?” Sam asked gently. Chris hesitated, his cheerful expression disappearing. “It’s... okay. Just a lot of pressure, you know?” Sam nodded. She knew he was carrying more than he let on, but she decided not to ask any further. “You’ll get through it. You always do.” --- Over the next few days, Sam worked hard to rebuild her connection with Chris. She joined him during lunch breaks, helped him with song ideas, and even sat through long practice sessions with the band. Slowly, she began to see breaks in his confident appearance he showed the world. One afternoon, as they sat under a tree behind the school, Sam finally worked up the courage to ask, “Chris, do you ever feel like... you’re carrying too much on your shoulders?” Chris glanced at her, his brow bent. “Sometimes,” he admitted. “I mean, being the leader of the band is great, but it’s a lot of responsibility. Everyone’s counting on me to keep things together.” Sam placed a comforting hand on his arm. “You don’t have to do it all alone. You have people who care about you.” Chris smiled faintly. “Thanks, Sam. That means a lot.” --- As Sam grew closer to Chris, she also spent more time with the other members of Eternal Chords. There was Kyle the drummer, who had a knack for cracking jokes at the worst possible moments. Then there was Mia, the keyboardist, whose quiet demeanor hid a fierce passion for music. There is also Marcus, who loves basketball as much as he loves playing the bass, and he didn't exactly enjoy Sam's company in their group. He was uncomfortable for some reason he couldn't explain and now there's Sam, who joins the group practically because she wants to be close to Chris and be able to protect him. Despite their differences, the band had a clear relationship. Watching them rehearse was like witnessing magic in the making. One evening, Sam decided to lighten the mood by organizing a surprise outing for the group. She convinced them to take a break from practice and head to the local arcade. --- The arcade was filled with energy, fancy lights and cheerful music filling the air. The band members quickly got into the moments of things, competing against each other in various games. Mia and Kyle had an intense competition over a shooting game, while Sam showed an unexpected talent for dance battles. Chris, on the other hand, walked toward the claw machine, determined to win a stuffed bear. Marcus didn't join them for their outing this time around. When he was asked, he said he didn't know early and that he was too busy to come. “Come on, Chris, you’ve got this!” Sam cheered as he attacked with the claw. The claw descended, grabbing hold of the bear before slipping and dropping it at the last second. Chris groaned in frustration, but Sam couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re hopeless,” she teased. Chris grinned, his frustration melting away. “Maybe, but at least I’m entertaining.” --- By the end of the evening, the band was in high spirits. They returned to the music room with renewed energy, ready to face their upcoming performance. Sam felt a sense of satisfaction as she watched them rehearse. For the first time, she saw a spark of joy in Chris’s eyes, a hint of the happiness she had been hoping to bring back into his life. But she knew her work wasn’t done. Chris’s hidden pain was still there, hiding beneath the surface. She had to find a way to help him confront it before it consumed him. --- One day, as they walked home from school together, Chris opened up about his family. “My dad doesn’t really get what I’m doing,” he admitted. “He thinks music is a waste of time. He wants me to focus on something more... practical.” Sam frowned. “That must be hard.” Chris shrugged, trying to seem less bothered. “That is what it is. I just wish he could see how much this means to me.” Sam stopped walking and turned to face him. “Chris, your music is incredible. It’s not just a hobby, it’s a gift. Don’t let anyone make you feel like it’s not important.” Chris looked at her, his expression softening. “Thanks, Sam. You always know what to say.” --- As the performance approached, the band threw themselves into rehearsals. Sam continued to support them, offering encouragement and helping with little tasks to ease their stress. She also made a point to keep an eye on Marcus. She had noticed his growing tension, his frustration building just beneath the surface. She didn’t know if it was connected to the events of the future, but she wasn’t taking any chances. --- The night before the performance, Sam gathered the band for a motivational talk. “You guys are amazing,” she said, looking each of them in the eye. “You’ve worked so hard for this, and it’s going to pay off. Just go out there and give it your all.” Mia grinned. “You should be our manager, Sam.” Kyle nodded. “Seriously, we wouldn’t have made it this far without you.” Marcus didn't bother paying attention, as his teammates appreciated Sam for her hard w They both offered a small smile. “Yeah. Thanks for everything.” Chris stepped forward and placed a hand on Sam’s shoulder. “You’ve been our strength, Sam. We couldn’t have done this without you.” Sam felt a discomfort in her throat but managed to smile. “I’m just glad I could help.” --- As she watched the band head to the stage the next day, Sam felt a mix of pride and anxiety. She had done everything she could to prepare them, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was still hiding in the shadows. She took a deep breath, reminding herself why she was here. This was her chance to make things right. She wasn’t going to let anything or anyone stand in her way. The lights reduced, and the music began. The concert was commencing, and Sam’s determination was stronger than ever.
