Chapter 6
It was strange, pulling into the driveway of the Dogget house when he knew Benny wasn’t home. Stranger still to find there was only one other car in the driveway, the one belonging to Martha. Her parents probably park in the garage, he thought. He straightened his coat and jogged up to the front door.
She was waiting at the door for him and greeted him with a kiss that warmed him right through. “You came. Come in, quickly. It’s getting colder outside.” She was wearing a snug, low-cut dress with a short, flared shirt. If she were to wear it out of the house she’d have to put leggings on or risk flashing people, but the only person who was going to see her in it right now was Danny and she’d picked this dress out special for his visit.
