Chapter 14 The days passed more easily after that. They fought less, laughed more. Martha wore the clothes in the dresser and even threw on one of the bulky coats so that she and Danny could take a walk in the woods together. They found a quiet place and shifted, letting their wolves run wild in the trees. It was a beautiful morning, the frost melting into dew in the underbrush, leaving their furry legs wet as they passed like silent ghosts through the deep shadows. It was rare they got to run outside beneath the trees like this, and unheard of to do it during the daytime. They chased startled rabbits and squirrels but didn’t hunt.
