Chapter 21
Just as before, a very groggy and confused Harris awoke to find himself in a hospital bed. Unlike the first time, when Harris opened his eyes, he found a handsome nurse staring down at him.
“I could get used to this,” Harris whispered, his voice hoarse.
Gage smiled broadly and then called to someone outside the room.
“Hi there,” Gage said kindly.
“How’d the surgery go?” Harris asked, his voice raspy.
“It looks like it went well.” Gage checked the monitors, his smile never faltering. “Can you move your hands, your feet?”
“Sure.” Does he think I’m slow or something?
“It sounds silly, but you can demonstrate for me?”
Harris raised both hands and then wiggled his toes.
“That’s great. The doctor’s going to have a hundred questions for you when he gets in tomorrow morning.”
