Aurora was in the passenger seat while Adolphus was driving, Lucian and the others were coming behind them in another car. Adolphus was sad for his friend. He didn’t know if he hated humans or not but he hoped Lucian would not reject her because he might never find a woman again.
“Hi”, Aurora said and gave a weird smile all in an attempt to stop the awkward silence.
“I’m Adolphus, you are?”, he decided to ask and strike up a conversation with her. After all, she was his friend’s mate.
“I’m Aurora”, she replied.
“Aurora”, he breathed, “Such a human name”.
He was about to say something when she interrupted him, “Tell me, what is Prince Lucian like?”
He was shocked by this question; he slowly smiled knowing that Lucian heard her question loud and clear from the car behind them.
“That’s a very shocking question. Who’d think that you’re already interested in him? I thought humans hated us”, he said.
“I won’t say I’m interested in him but I should know who he is, don’t you think?”, she replied with a boldness which made Adolphus smirk. He hoped Lucian was listening to his ‘mate’.
“He is a lot of things but stupid and ugly”, he said with a smile still plastered on his face, “You’ll see who he is”.
They arrived in no time to meet the angry Alpha. He already got the news, he heard all that happened. As they climbed down from their cars, they met the angry Alpha Gonzalo and Luna Sierra.
Aurora found her spot behind Adolphus while Lucian walked in front of them.
“I already smell the human and I will not let her live on our lands, Lucian”, Gonzalo roared angrily.
“Father, this is out of my hands”, he replied coolly.
“Reject her then!”, his father replied.
Sierra quickly covered her husband’s mouth, “Don’t say that, please. We can talk this out. In the meantime, send her to one of the mini halls to wait for our decision”.
“No, you seem to have a misunderstanding mother. I will decide what to do with my mate and no one else. I am also unhappy about the fact that I had to wait all these years for the goddess to bless me with an unworthy human”, he said; his face twisting with disgust when he talked about her.
Aurora was hurt, deeply. She had high hopes coming here thinking anything would be better than being a servant. It appeared she had a worse fate here. She tried to peek from behind Adolphus's back to see what was happening. Adolphus noticed and shielded her again, blocking her view.
“Fine then, do what you want but remember that you will soon be Alpha. You cannot have her beside you, she is a weakness”, Gonzalo said and walked back in with his wife and the 2 servants who were standing behind them.
Aurora was able to see them before they entered and she noticed that the servants were werewolves, it looked like they really didn’t welcome the idea of humans living amongst them.
Lucian turned back to look at Adolphus and his mate, which he saw as a curse, “Take her to my house and see to it that she’s treated properly. I need to run, I’ll be back shortly”, he said, and walked away from them and the house towards the bush beside them.
“Why does he need to run?”, she asked acting like she was unaffected by the event that just unfolded.
Adolphus stared at her for a while and then started to lead her towards Lucian’s house, “He needs to shift and run, to clear his head”. Then Adolphus paused knowing well it would be a battle between him and his wolf. His wolf had smelled his mate and it would not rest till he mates her.
“In the meantime, make yourself comfortable in our land and do well to consult me if you need my help. I’m always at your service”, he added, and then they continued in their awkward silence. When they arrived at the mansion, Aurora paused and asked, “Do you think he will reject me and will it affect me?”
Adolphus smiled, “Do you like him already? Or are you just scared?”
“Both?”, she replied like she was unsure. She didn’t know if she was already growing feelings for him or if she was attracted to his very attractive body or if she was moved by him constantly standing up for her while still acting cold to her.
“Trust me, if he wanted to reject you, he wouldn’t have brought you here at all. It isn’t even easy for a wolf to reject his mate”, Adolphus replied.
Aurora paused like she was pondering on his words, “He has also always been calling me unworthy. Am I?”, she asked casually like she didn’t care but it was the opposite in her heart.
Adolphus paused and looked at her for a while before replying, “Yes you are”.
