Chapter 17 The cabbie pulled up in front of an elegant old town house. Since I’d discouraged his attempts at conversation, he simply said, “Here we are, gov.” I stared at it in some surprise. “Is this right?” “This is the address you gave me.” “Hmm.” I gave him his fare plus a tip and stepped out into the chill December air. How had the Dorincourt brothers managed to afford a house like this? If they were involved in something illegal… But no. If they were, I or one of my colleagues would have heard of it. I pressed the doorbell, and when no one seemed inclined to answer, hammered the knocker with vigour. They were home; light shone through the curtains of the street level windows.
