The Transformation

1102 Words
As the morning bird sings away, withered tree leafs sweeping the air with people of different skin colors and shapes walking hurriedly to meet up at work. A typical Singaporean day. As the sun shines brightly onto a navy blue three story building with people shuffling in and out of the building, seeking for help or asking about a missing child or filing a report. Some in handcuffs with a grim face while some grinning from cheek to cheek with satisfaction on their faces. And also a set of people with a worried face and teary eyes. Detective Jameson sat at his desk, sipping his kopi-o, and staring blankly at the file in front of him. It was a typical Monday morning at the Singapore Police Force, with phones ringing and colleagues chatting in hushed tones. Jameson, however, was lost in thought. As he gazed out the window, he couldn't shake off the memory of the previous night. He had been patrolling the streets of Little India when he stumbled upon a group of bandits attacking a young woman. He had chased them off, and the woman, grateful, had invited him into her home for a glass of water. Jameson had hesitated at first, but something about her had put him at ease. She was a mysterious beauty, with piercing green eyes and raven-black hair. As he drank the water, he had felt a strange sensation wash over him, like a jolt of electricity had run through his veins. What the hell was that?' he had thought. He had left her house soon after, feeling a little disoriented. The rest of the night had passed in a blur, and Jameson had written it off as exhaustion. Ok I'm not entering any woman's house anymore! But as he looked in the mirror that morning, he had barely recognized the man staring back at him. His eyes seemed darker, his jawline more chiseled, and his shoulders broader. He had brushed it off as a trick of the light, but the feeling of unease had lingered. As he sat at his desk, Jameson noticed his colleagues glancing at him with a mixture of curiosity and fear. He ignored it, focusing on the file in front of him. But as he began to read, he felt a strange tingling sensation in his fingers, like they were growing longer and stronger. He looked down, startled, and saw that his hands had changed. They were larger, the veins more pronounced, and the nails sharper. Jameson's heart skipped a beat as he realized that something was very wrong. Was there something in that cup? She couldn't have done something like that, i helped her. Or did she? He furrows his brows in thought. She seemed nice and pretty too. He sighs and grabs a handful of his hair. Just then, his phone rang, shattering the silence. Jameson picked it up, his voice low and husky, "Detective Jameson." The voice on the other end was familiar, but Jameson couldn't quite place it. "Jameson, it's Captain Lewis. I need to see you in my office, now." Jameson's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. What could the captain want with him? He stood up, his movements fluid and confident, and made his way to the captain's office. As he walked, he felt a strange sense of power coursing through his veins. He was no longer the timid man he had once been. Something had changed, and Jameson was determined to find out what. He knocked on the captain's door, his voice firm, "Enter." The captain looked up, a mixture of surprise and wariness on his face. "Jameson, come in. Close the door behind you." Jameson did as he was told, his eyes fixed on the captain. He felt a sense of anticipation building inside him, like a predator stalking its prey. ' What did this boy eat?' Captain thought. "Jameson, I've been watching you," the captain began, his voice measured. "You've... changed. You're different. I want to know what's going on." Jameson smiled, his lips curling back to reveal sharper teeth. "I'm not sure what you mean, captain," he said, his voice dripping with menace. The captain's eyes widened, and for a moment, Jameson saw fear there. But it was quickly replaced by a look of determination. "Don't play games with me, Jameson. You're not the man I hired. You're something... else." "Come on, open up, did you go to therapy or did you wake differently today?" Jameson leaned forward, his eyes flashing with a hint of darkness. "I'm exactly who I was meant to be, captain. And I'm here to stay." The captain's face paled, but he didn't back down. "We'll see about that, Jameson. We'll see about that." "Just make sure you don't slip up on whatever you're taking and don't let it affect your work " "Understood?" "Yes Captain " Captain grunts and adjusts in the chair . "Whatever secret you have about this new you, it won't last long" "I don't have any secret" Jameson looks at him in the eye. Captain scoffs, "Yeah, right" "That's what they always say" "Be careful, Kaleb" he said seriously. This is the first time the Captain is calling his first name. Usually, it's Jameson or Boy. Kaleb squints his eyes , " I will " "Now get your sweaty hands off my table." He said. Kaleb retreats and gave a mischievous smirk. "Get back to work" Kaleb nods . As Kaleb left the office, he felt a sense of excitement building inside him. He was no longer Timid Tom, the quiet and unassuming detective. He was the Darkest Officer, and he was ready to take on the world. 'I don't know if I like the nickname but whatever ' he smirks. "Whatever that's going on I kinda like it" he grins. "But I need to know how I got to be like this " he mutters. "Why are you whispering to yourself boy?" a man's voice said. Kaleb looks at him dead in the eyes, "None of your business " He hates it when someone calls him 'Boy' except the Captain. Definitely don't want to hear such from his bullies. "Got a problem, Jameson?" the man draws closer. "You tell me " Kaleb said, his voice deep. Eyes black, deep as he stares into his eyes. Kaleb notices a hint of fear and confusion in his eyes. With a menacing laugh, "Keep your claws to yourself, Harvey " Kaleb taps his chest and walks out to his work station. "Pfftr...." a colleague laughs. Harvey looks his way. "Sorry" He clenches his fist.
