Nia's Pov

I ran with full power in my body to reach the bus stop. The bus was just leaving when I tapped at the door.

The driver opened the door and I put my bus pass at the scanner and muttered a thank you to the driver and sat at my seat.

I caught the bus just in time otherwise I would have missed my graduation ceremony. But my happiness didn't last long when the bus got stuck in the traffic. I don't think I will make it in time.

My phone rang and my best friend Lily's name appeared on it.

"Where the f**k are you Nia?? The ceremony will start in fifteen minutes." she yelled at my phone.

"I am stuck in traffic" I said." Don't tell me you took the last bus" She asked. I muttered a small yes.

"Nia you are the topper you will be the first one to receive the certificate and deliver a speech and you are stuck in traffic" she said with a sigh.

As we were talking the traffic got clear." Lily, traffic cleared I will be there in ten minutes." I said to her.

"You should be because only ten minutes left until it starts" she said and ended the call.

"Nia Carlson" my name announced. Omg, I am just on time. I went to the stage to receive my certificate.

"Now Miss Nia will give a speech" the announcer said and everyone clapped.

"Good morning Director, teachers and my fellow school mates. I will not make this long. I just wanted to say that Do your best. Never compete with anyone other than yourself. Try to beat yourself. It will bring out the best in you. I wish my best regards to all of you. Thank you" I completed my speech and everyone clapped.

After the ceremony, we all threw our hat in air for school picture. " Omg! Nia I can't believe we graduated" said Lily. " I know, now we are free from this prison" I said while laughing.

We clicked more pictures. After that, I went to my old classroom. I am going to miss this class, my friends, my teachers. My eyes became teary.

" I will miss you Nia" said Lily. I turned around & hugged her tightly while crying." I will miss you too Lily".

After that, I went back and as usual, my parents are fighting. Today I passed my high school. Instead of congratulating me, they are fighting. Great, really great.

I went back to my room and start packing. Tomorrow I will be flying to Florida and one more step near to my dream. Three days ago I received my confirmation letter and I looked for the nearest flight and Bingo there was a seat available in tomorrow's flight.

While packing I didn't realize the time, It was already night. My mom came to my room calling me for dinner.

I quickly took a shower. While getting ready, I saw the mark on my elbow. I remember that dad was drunk and mom and bro was not at home. He just came to my room and started beating me and I was helpless. After half an hour of beating and abusing me, he went away.

I passed out there and next time when I opened my eyes, I was in the hospital. Mom found me and brought me here. After that day, I was never left alone with my dad.

That's why till today I avoid every encounter with dad. " Nia come down for dinner" mom called." Coming mom."I said and quickly combed my hair and made a bun.

Everyone was sitting and to my surprise, dad wasn't drunk today. I sat on the stool. Today mom cooked everything that I like.

I was surprised." Nia tomorrow you are going so I made everything you like." mom said. I thanked her and started eating.

After dinner, I went back to my room. Someone knocked at my door. " Come in" I said politely. "Nia, baby" my mom said & she sat down next to me on the bed. "I know I have not been the best mother and for that I am sorry. Tomorrow you are going and I happy that now you don't have to encounter those fights" she said and started crying.

I hugged her and my eyes also became teary. After some time like that, she stopped crying and handed me a box. " Open it Nia" mom said. It was the latest phone. I haven't bought any in five years.

" Omg mom thank you, thank you so much. This is the best gift." I said. " I thought now you are going out of the country so you might need one" she said.

" But mom where did you got the money?? I thought the shop was not doing well."I asked." I am saving money for some years" she said and I hugged her.

She went away. I spent some time on completing the settings of and transferring data on my new phone. I set the alarm for 5:30 in the morning and slept.

I woke up feeling refreshed. I did my daily routine and got ready. It was nine-thirty already. My flight is exactly at two. I went down with my luggage.

"Oh Nia, have you packed everything you will need??" she asked. "Yes mom" I replied.

"We will miss you Nia" mom said while crying. We hugged each other. I hated my dad to the core, so there is no chance that I will hug him.

"I will never miss you ado..." he whispered that word in my ear and went away. I was said that he called me that.

The airport is two hours away from here. My friends came to my home to bid goodbye. After some time my cab came. I settle down with my luggage. The cab started and when I saw back my family and friends were waving at me.

I reached the airport and board my flight.

Today I will be away from the drama of my life and start a new chapter of my life.
