We tried calling Mr. Hendra three times. Three times, he didn't answer. Damian was already standing by the living room window with his phone in hand, staring out at the quiet front gate, while I sat on the sofa trying to piece together what had just happened into something that made sense. A call getting cut off could mean many things. Bad signal. A dead battery. Someone walking into his office at the wrong moment. Or something much worse. "We can't just wait here," I said.
