QUEEN POV (7 YEARS OLD)
Rogues were out-casted wolves (deemed guilty by their previous Alphas of severe crimes) banished and cut off mentally and physically from their pack, forever to be alone to roam the outskirts of unclaimed land. For a rogue, to enter a pack territory was to be punished severely, if not by death. Rogues that come onto larger territories always were a threat as they never had good intentions; especially, when invading in large groups meaning to attack and destroy all in their path.
On that day, Mom had promised me to take me out to the pond to feed the baby ducks and have a small picnic for lunch, just me and her. Even at seven years old, I cherished those moments because Mom and Dad were always busy with pack issues and taking care of pack matters so I didn’t get to see them much. At the time, dad had to go with his Beta, second in command, to establish new borders with the neighboring pack. Which was a good opportunity for mom to spend some one-on-one time with their only daughter.
We were on our way down to the pond and my seven-year-old self spotted the baby ducks, I remember letting go of my mother’s hand and bounded down to them. “Ellie, be careful baby!” she shouted close behind me, while laughing at my giddiness. My mother finally caught up with me, grabbed my small hand in hers, and kneeled down so that we were at eye level to one another.
“Ellie baby, you really must be careful! You really can’t just run off like that, okay? What if you fell or something?” she scolded me. Suddenly, a gust of wind raced by making my little dress swoop around me. A faint stench of rotten eggs began to permeate the air, I felt my mother stiffen as she stood up and assessed her surroundings, guarding me with her body.
‘Rogues!’ my mother declared via her Luna mind link. Sending a mental alert to all her pack members warning them to take cover and to get the soldiers attention to help and defend the pack. Only hoping to reach my father, not knowing how far away he was.
I whimpered, scared, not knowing what to do. It was just mom and I at the pond. At that young age, I didn’t know what my mother was capable of. My mother picked me up and started running with me in her arms, tucking my small head onto her shoulder, back towards the pack house. The smell of the rogues became stronger, when my mother stopped and put me down.
My eyes are closed and all I can hear is growling all around us and it smelled so bad! I wanted to throw up, I finally opened my eyes to see so many ugly men and some dirty looking wolves surrounding us, growling and snapping their nasty yellow fangs at us. I grab my mother’s blouse and try to bury myself into her. She puts me behind her and slowly turns circling around to see all that was surrounding us.
“What do you want? Why are you on our land?” my mother barked out, trying to use her Luna voice to bend to her will, which had no effect on Rogues.
“We want you and your little girl, white wolf, you are much coveted by our leader” one of the Rogues snarled, creeping closer.
“That will never happen!” my mother snapped back, then as if on cue they began to attack.
‘Close your eyes my sweet and hang on to me tight. When I shift, you must be on my back and grab on to me tightly and no matter what do not open your eyes, your father is coming with soldiers I just need to buy some time’ my mother linked me. My mother pulled me up in her arms, with one arm and fought the Rogues back, in her human form, with one strong arm. I hear the snapping of bones and whimpers coming from the defeated Rogues.
‘Going to shift now’, my mother's clothes shred away as her body dissembles itself to her white wolf, I somehow still end up on her back and quickly grab hold of beautiful white fur as she begins to run, snapping necks and fighting with Rogues that came at us, I yelped a few times and almost lost my grip on my mother, when a Rogue nipped my leg trying to bite my mother, I kicked his snout away.
My mother slowed down to check on me, ‘are you okay pup?’ my mother’s wolf linked me, ‘I’m okay mama’ I responded, gripping her fur tightly. Then we looked up and we were once again surrounded.
Realizing the dire situation once more, she gave a loud snarl and then she began to glow.
‘Wow, mama! You’re glowing!’ I mind linked her.
‘Close your eyes baby and hold tight my love, whatever you do, don’t open your eyes until I say so’
Next thing I know, my mother's wolf grew warm, I can see from the back of my eyelids that some bright light was pulsating and radiating heat and the field where we were finally became quiet once again. The stench of rotten eggs was gone, replaced with fresh clean crisp air.
Still on my mother’s back, my mother collapsed underneath me and tells me ‘Sweetie, you can open your eyes now, stay close to me though. Your father should be near’ then she transforms back to her human form, and I wiggle close to her to keep her warm. She had no clothes on from her transformation. She laid there, deflated from fighting off so many rogues, doing her best to protect us. She fought so well, even as I child I was so proud of her. Only as her last resort, did she use her white wolf powers to save us, but it caused the last of her energy to drain away as she fell into a deep sleep.
After some time, my father found us looking horrible as he must’ve fought his way to us, “Are you okay Ellie belly?” he asked me worriedly. I nodded, not able to speak just yet. With that he wrapped my naked mother in his jacket and picked her up bridal style and his Beta carried me, and they walked back home.
My mother took days to wake up and I was unable to speak for the longest time.
The day my mother woke up, my father and I were there by her side. My father barely left her side except to eat and shower. Checking on me a few times a day and would bring me to visit her and chat with her, while we waited for her to wake up. The pack doctor had advised us that due to the amount of energy that she used, her white wolf had to use her own lifeline to save us, so it would take a while for her wolf to heal both of them.
After her awakening, my mother acted as if nothing had happened, and that day was never brought up again. We rarely saw any more rogues after that and we lived life in our pack quite peacefully. Until the day, I met my mate.
