Chapter 5

1060 Words
Leo's POV I walked into the lab, the sounds, and buzzing of machines filled the air, coupled with a different mixture of gases. I walked over to my desk, watched as they paid attention to the video, whilst looking at the experimental setup on the other table. I couldn't help but smile, it brought back memories of the past. It gladdens my heart to see these young ones active in the lab. Not because I made it mandatory, but because they loved doing it. I returned my gaze to them, they were on the other table, staring at the stopwatch, and the conical flask which was on the bunsen burner. "Few seconds left, there's no sign of change," Lucy muttered tugging the collar of her lab coat. "Shhhhhhh," Marco muttered without taking his gaze away from the conical flask. "Come on Marco, nothing can be done," Gael muttered as he walked over to a vacant stool. "Marco, Gael is right, there's nothing that can be done. There's something we must have missed, according to the video, we were supposed to see change, nine to ten minutes ago," Bella added. I waited till the stopwatch ran down before clearing my throat. They jolted, before turning towards me. Marco hand on his chest, "You startled us, dad." I smiled, "I am sorry son," I walked over to where they stood, my hands wrapped around my chest, "Marco, if you want to excel at this, you must learn to listen, you must also know when to stop." I place my hands around Gael's shoulders, "That's what made me who I am today." "Really?" Marco asked as his shoulders dropped. "Yes son, being in the lab isn't all about getting the accurate result. It's about enjoying the process that brings the result. It's better you get carried away with the process, than the result." "Why is that?" Lucy asked. I turned towards her, "That's what makes you want to keep trying no matter how many times you fail." "That's true, that's the reason why we are still here. Those who started with us aren't in the game anymore, do you know why?" We all tilted our gaze towards the exit where Allison stood. "No," they shook their heads. "That's because they prioritized results above the process. When things stopped going their way, when they stopped getting the needed results, they got mad, angry, and decided it was time for them to leave," he replied as he walked towards us. "Wow, seems like you both are cool, and obsessed with failure," Gael said, and we all laughed. "Not really Gael, it's important you understand that failure is part of this job. It's not something you can bypass, you have to accept it and enjoy the process. When you get the right result, fine, when you don't get the needed results fine," I said as I sat down. "That's right, and as you travel along this route it's important that you find like-minded people. People who remind you to prioritize process over results, because if you are the only one, you won't last long. Also the longer it takes, the more interesting it becomes, Mr. Leo can attest to that," Allison added. I nodded my head, "He's right, but ready to get tested..... Well, I have great news for you all." They grumbled, "The last time you said such, we spent eleven hours in the lab," Lucy muttered. "The other time you said this, we stayed awake for two days. I don't think we want to hear this news," Bella added. "Come on guys, at least let's hear what he has to say, I am sure this would be different," Gael lightly tapped the shoulders of the ladies. "Fine," they both chorused gazing at me. I looked over at Mr. Allison, and he nodded his head, I nodded in return. "We will be taking things to the next level, we are about to do something supercool, a project that's going to etch our names into the history book, most especially it's going to fetch us a crazy amount of money." "This sounds promising," Bella rolled her eyes. "Of course it is, but..." "But what?" They chorused. "This project will test everything about you, it will take a toll on you, it's a dangerous one. Lives could be lost during the course of this project, but if we are able to achieve the purpose of this project. Trust me when I say, it would be one of the happiest days of your life," I stepped down from the stool. "Okay..... What's this project about?" Marco asked. "Werewolves," I muttered, and they all burst into laughter. "Come on boss, they don't exist. Those are just some mystical creatures, and tales. They don't exist," Gael muttered. I shook my head, and their laughter died down, "If you know me well, you can tell I barely crack jokes when it comes to the lab, or projects. I know it's hard for you guys to believe because you have never seen one. We don't even know where they are, or if they exist right?" "Yes," they chorused. "I was once in the same position as you guys. When I was told, I didn't believe it one bit, I downplayed their existence, and the things that revolved around them, until I came in contact with not just one, but a pack." "What?" They chorused. I nodded, "Yeah a pack, that's a story for another day. In that story lies why I have my arms covered....I am not here for that, I want you guys to be aware they exist, and they live amongst us." "Grwwwwwww," Allison roared, and they all jolted running away. Allison, and I couldn't help but laugh, "I got you guys, I got you guys." "Come on Mr. Allison that was an expensive joke to make," Lucy muttered as she returned to where we stood. "I am sorry, I didn't know you guys would react the way you did, since you claimed they don't exist," Allison muttered, tucking in his shirt. "Long story short, we need a particular werewolf who's believed to have a special gene. She's a special breed, and there are a lot of things we can achieve if we get her." "Wow a female werewolf, what's her name?" Bella asked. I smiled, "Her name is Charlotte."
