“Alright,Miss Reynolds, that's all for today. We'll call you or send an email across. You can go now,” the interviewer said. “Okay sir, thank you so much sir,” she stood up and left. Coming out of the office, Audrey heaved a sigh of relief. This was her third interview for the day and she was feeling exhausted and famished. She checked her phone for the time and saw that she had missed calls. “What!! Twenty missed calls !!!” She exclaimed. She checked to know who called and saw that it was her younger sister calling. She became alarmed wondering if all was well. “Hello Sissy what's up? Is all well?” She asked worriedly. “No sis, all isn't well. Mom slumped while taking her bath and she's been unconscious,” she said, her voice breaking. “Oh my goodness!!! Where are you guys now?” She asked. “We are in the hospital. The doctor took her in for an examination and he hasn't come out yet. You really need to come fast. I'm so scared” her sister said with tears in her eyes. “Text me the address of the hospital, I'll be there now," she said and hung up. The address was sent and she boarded a taxi to the hospital. She got there and the doctor came out just in time, “Doctor tell me what's her condition? Is she going to be fine?” She asked worriedly “Who are you to the patient?” The doctor asked. “We are her children sir,” Audrey responded. “Where's your father?” The doctor asked. “He's late,” she replied The doctor's expression was grim. "Your mother's case is quite critical. She's suffered a severe stroke and needs immediate surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain." Audrey's heart sank. "What are her chances of survival?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady for her sister's sake. The doctor hesitated. "I'd say...50/50. But we need to act fast. The longer we wait, the lower her chances of survival." Audrey nodded, feeling a sense of anxiety wash over her. "What do we need to do?" she asked. The doctor handed her a folder filled with papers. “ You need to fill out these forms and get your mother's insurance information. Also you need to pay a deposit for the surgery." Audrey's eyes widened as she scanned the papers. The cost of the surgery was staggering - tens of thousands of dollars. She didn't have that kind of money. As she stood there, feeling helpless and desperate, a flyer caught her eye. It was an advert for a high-priced escort service, promising big money for a single night's work. Audrey felt a surge of revulsion, but also a glimmer of hope. Making sure that her sister wasn't watching her,she tore off a tab from the flyer with the phone number and stuffed it into her pocket. She knew it was a risk, but she was desperate. She would do anything to save her mother's life. As she walked out of the hospital, Audrey felt a sense of trepidation. What was she getting herself into? But she pushed the thought aside and dialed the number on the flyer. A smooth voice answered, and Audrey took a deep breath before speaking. "Hi," she said, trying to sound confident. "I'm calling about the escort service. I'm interested in learning more." There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Audrey wondered if she had made a mistake. But then the voice spoke up again. "Welcome to the service," the voice said. "We'll take care of everything. Just show up at the hotel at 8pm tonight, and we'll take it from there." Audrey felt a shiver run down her spine as she hung up the phone. She bought some snacks and went back to the hospital to meet her sister. “Hey Gina, have you eaten?” She asked. “No,I haven't,” her sister replied with her face downward. “Take this,” Audrey said, giving her the snacks she bought. Her sister refused vehemently not looking up. Audrey, who thought she was sleeping, tried to get her to stand up so she could have the snacks to prevent ulcers. Gina finally looked up and her eyes were so red. She had obviously been crying since she left. “Hey, Gina come on, the doctor said once mom does the surgery she would be well so why are you still crying?” Audrey asked her feeling bad to see her sister in a sorry state. “Yes but sister, the doctor would only commence the surgery when we make payment. How are we going to raise the money for the surgery? We don't even have friends or relatives that can help us. What if mom does, how are we going to live without mom?” She said crying the more. Audrey fought back tears that was fighting to fall down her cheeks. She needed to be strong for her sister. She squatted in front of her sister, dropped the snacks she was holding and took her sister's face in her hands. She wiped her tears with her fingers and said, “Nothing will happen to mom. I'll arrange for the money somehow no matter what it takes. As long as I am alive ,I won't let anything happen to mom. That's my promise to you okay?” she said reassuring her. Gina nodded and they hugged each other tightly. “Now have this snacks so we can go home,” Audrey said. Gina took the snacks from her and had a bite before asking, “What about you? Aren't you eating? I know you haven't eaten anything since morning,” her sister said. “I'm fine, I'm not hungry,” she said. When Gina was done eating, they left for home. Audrey took a shower and lay down on her bed waiting for dusk. When it was evening, Gina went back to the hospital to stay with her mother. This saved Audrey the stress of explaining where she was going. Gina would never let her go if she found out the means through which she wanted to generate money from. Their mother had warned them against selling their bodies for money. She arrived at the hotel at exactly 8pm. She stood outside the hotel and looked around feeling nervous. Her heart was racing with anticipation and fear. She had never done anything like this before and she was unsure of who to walk up to. She thought about her mother, lying in the hospital bed,her sister's crying face as well as her promise to her and steeled herself. She took a deep breath, smoothed out her dress, and walked into the hotel lobby looking as beautiful as possible. She didn't wear makeup but she styled her hair in a simple but unique style. The man who had spoken to her on the phone was waiting for her. He was tall, handsome, and neatly dressed. "Audrey, you're welcome," he said, smiling. "I'm glad you decided to join us." Audrey smiled back, trying to hide her nervousness. "Thanks," she said. "I'm a little nervous." The man chuckled. "Don't be," he said. "You'll be fine. Just remember, this is just business. Don't get too attached." Audrey nodded, feeling a pang of unease. But she pushed it aside and followed the man to the elevator. As they rode up to the top floor, Audrey thought her heart was going to come out of her mouth because of its heavy pounding. She wondered about who she was going to meet and how she was going to handle him. The elevator doors opened, and Audrey stepped out into a luxurious penthouse suite. The man gestured for her to follow him, and she did, still apprehensive. They walked into a bedroom, and Audrey saw a figure standing by the window. It was a man, tall and broad-shouldered, with a chiseled jawline and piercing blue eyes. He turned to face her, and Audrey felt a jolt of electricity run through her body. There was something about this man that drew her in, something that made her feel like she was drowning in his eyes. "Hello," he said, his voice low and husky. "I'm David." Audrey smiled, feeling a sense of trepidation. "I'm ….Audrey," she said. David smiled back, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "It's nice to meet you, Audrey," he said, stretching his hand for a handshake. She placed her hands on his accepting the handshake. “My pleasure,” she said. He rubbed her hands softly and said, "You're beautiful." Still holding h er hands, he locked gaze with her, leaned in and kissed her. With that, Audrey's night began….
