Zayde's Point of View
I am crouched behind a large fallen tree, my muscles taut, my eyes fixed on a narrow trail ahead of us. Jason and two warriors flank me, all three of them just as focused as I am.
"No sign yet. It's quiet."
Jason whispers after ending a mindlink and I frown.
"That is exactly what worries me."
I murmur and we fall back into silence as we continue to observe our surroundings.
A sudden flicker of movement catches my eye. Something to my right is moving fast, darting between the trees.
"There!"
I whisper, as I point in the direction of the movement. My other hand rise, signaling for the team behind us to freeze. The flicker reappears, and there are now several shapes moving with unnatural speed, barely visible in the shadows.
"Vampires. They are here."
