CHAPTER 4.
I thought I was ready for anything…
until I saw her face.
The woman he married.
She wasn’t smiling like a bride in love.
She was watching me.
Directly.
Like she knew everything about me.
And worse… like she knew my secret.
My hands went cold immediately.
I quickly looked away, but it was too late.
She had already seen me.
The moment felt like it lasted forever… until someone pulled her away.
But her eyes stayed in my mind.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that this wedding wasn’t just about love.
It was something else.
Something darker.That evening, I couldn’t stay home.
I needed answers.
My feet carried me without thinking… all the way to the place I once called ours.
His house.
The lights were on.
I froze outside the gate.
Why was I here?
Before I could turn back, the gate opened.
And he was standing there.
Like he was expecting me.
“You came,” he said quietly.
His voice didn’t sound surprised.
It sounded… prepared.
I stepped forward slowly.
“I saw her,” I said.
He didn’t respond.
I swallowed hard.
“She knows me, doesn’t she?”
Silence.
That silence hurt more than any words.
Finally, he exhaled.
“You shouldn’t be here,” he said.
My chest tightened.
“So it’s true,” I whispered.
“You’re hiding something from me.”
His jaw clenched.
For the first time, I saw something different in his eyes.
Fear.
Not for me.
But for himself.
Before I could ask more, a car pulled up behind him.
And everything changed.
The woman from the wedding stepped out.
Slowly.
Calmly.
Smiling.
“I told you she would come,” she said.
My heart dropped.
He didn’t turn to look at me.
He just closed his eyes like he had been waiting for this moment.
Like I had just walked into a trap I never saw coming. And in that moment… I realized something terrifying.
I was never just the girl he loved.
I was part of something I was never meant to understand.
