Thomas took the test stick from my trembling hands, his eyes scanning the marks as if hoping for a different outcome. The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of the revelation settling between us. I watched his expressions shift from confusion to realization, mirroring the whirlwind of emotions within me.
A muffled gasp escaped his lips, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze. The reality of impending parenthood hit us like a tidal wave, sweeping away any preconceived notions we had about our future. The silence lingered, punctuated only by the soft hum of the study's ambient lighting.
