ANNABEL’S POV To my surprise, my mother, who I believed to be gone, stood by the doorway. The reality of her presence hit me like a tidal wave. "Mum?" I stuttered, the word escaping my lips as a mix of disbelief and confusion. Her eyes widened, mirroring my hock. "Annabel? Is it you?" Her voice quivered with a blend of astonishment and relief.
