Chapter two-silver eyes

1494 Words
Morning slowly crept into the city. Clara woke up, super annoyed. Those silver eyes were still bugging her. Her sheets were all twisted. She didn't want to move, afraid that if she opened her eyes, she'd just replay that alley scene, staring at that guy from her dreams. Finally, she sat up. Sunlight burst through the blinds. Her hands were shaking. The marks on her wrist looked darker, almost glowing. She touched them and felt a thump. Her heart did a flip-flop. She stumbled to the bathroom, expecting a monster in the mirror. But it was just her: pale, wide-eyed, messy hair. Still, something about her reflection seemed sharper. She leaned closer, and for a sec, her pupils flashed gold. Then gone. Just brown. No way, she whispered, stepping back. She figured she must be losing it. That seemed more likely than monsters and silver-eyed guys disappearing. She made coffee, still half asleep. The smell was intense. Every smell, every sound was louder. The coffee machine was deafening! She could hear her neighbor stomping around upstairs. Her own heart was going crazy. Her phone buzzed. It was Maya, her friend: *Are you alive? You missed work.* Clara texted back: *Yeah. Just tired. Crazy dreams.* She waited a sec. *You need a break maybe. You seem off.* *Off.* She almost laughed. If only it was that simple. She threw on jeans and a jacket. Maybe some air would help. Outside, the city was bustling—traffic, vendors, people everywhere. But the world felt... wrong. The colors were too bright, everything was too fast. She caught every smell—perfume, sweat, fear—like she'd suddenly gained super senses. It was scary but pretty cool. By noon, she's just walking down the block, feeling totally lost because of all the weird stuff that happened. LA was buzzing, sure, but underneath everything, something felt old, really old. She passed a glass storefront and saw her reflection. Time skipped. She wasn't on the sidewalk anymore. She was standing on mossy ground under silver leaves. Wolves howled in the distance. The air smelled like rain and blood. She blinked, and the city was back. Her heart did a marathon in seconds. She ran from the window—and crashed straight into someone. Easy, a voice said. She knew who it was. Damien. Sunlight hit his eyes, making them look silver. He was wearing a black shirt, sleeves rolled up, jeans, and looked like he could not care about anything. You, she said. He almost smiled. Me. Her stomach felt crazy, all twisted up with fear. You shouldn't be here. I could say the same. I don't even know you. Yes, you do, he said. You just don't remember. That hit her hard. You're nuts. Maybe. Maybe not, you still forgot what you are She stepped back. I'm out. She turned, but he grabbed her wrist - not hard, but she felt it. Heat shot up where he touched her. The street went silent. For a second, there was only them—her breathing, his pulse, his smell of rain and smoke. Let me go, she whispered. Can't, he said quietly. It affects us both. She tried to pull away. What’s that mean? He watched her wrist, and he noticed the marks got thicker. It's deeper now. You felt it, right? The heat, you said you were starving? She swallowed hard. I don't want it. He moved closer, quietly. It's already a part of you. You can try to ignore it but that is just as stupid. He talked with dangerous words that bothered her. Her chest was so close to her chest. You don't get to talk to me like that. I do, He brushed hair from her face. She flinched. I've known you much longer than you've been alive, Clara. She almost laughed. You're crazy. A sad smile appeared. You said that last time, too. What happened last time? He went silent. The energy was crazy in the air! All she wanted to do was RUN! , but her body wouldn’t move. Her pulse thumped; her skin felt hot; she had trouble breathing. Why me? Her voice said. Because the Moon wanted you, he said. I’m done. His eyes were different. The cool, the dangerous look broke for a sec, and she saw that bad thing. Maybe he would try kissing her. That definitely caused the heart to run. Instead, he dropped her wrist and stepped back. It's coming, he said. You'll have to be ready. What is it? she asked. You will be very strong, he said. She shook her head. I'm not a monster. Me neither, he said, his voice low. But someone can turn you. She didn't want to. The street was suddenly so loud as they had their moment. Then Damien shook his head. He was scared What is it? Clara asked. We're being watched. Before she could ask him more, he stepped in front of her. He grabbed her hand, pulling her into the shadows. Two men stood across the street. Hunters, he whispered. Her heart just stopped. Hunters? What does that even mean? Me. and you. One of the men reached inside his jacket. Damien didn't want to stay any longer, he held her hand. Move! They ran down the alley, through the city's backstreets. Clara barely felt fear, she just ran as fast as she could. Finally, they reached an old warehouse by the river. It was all dusty. Clara leaned against the wall, trying to catch her breath. What just happened? she asked. They knew stuff about you now, Damien said Who? she asked. The Hunters. He turned, and his eyes were reflecting like silver. You can do much more, Clara. That's both awesome and terrible. She stared at him. You actually want me to believe any of this? That I'm some kind of… thing? He came closer, slow. Not just any. She shook her head. I'm just me. I’ve got a job, friends, a life—” Not later on, he said. You can feel it. Her voice choked up. Why me? He touched her arm. Because you were mine, long ago. She looked up, eyes open. I don't have any memories about that. You will soon, he said. It was sad She had to stand so close. His breath was as hot as his and she became wild. Her heart became fast. Damien said “Please stay away from me.” Then why are you still here? I can't. Then, glass could be heard as their step neared. Damien just watched the sound. We had to move or they would just follow behind “What do we do?” she asked, she said in fear. He grabbed her hand again and took her to the back of the building. Move! She saw silver in her and they went, She had a weird thought in her head like He wants her to Trust her. She just moved as they tried to fire at them. The thought had her shaking. The smell was dust, wood. She couldn't catch much wind I’m tired He shook her a little. “You’re tired. “I should I You can catch more things. “I don’t get it,” she said. “How can the news even get out?” “Because someone was to take their chance She pulled her wrist .She rubbed her hand but there was moving “What are you even going to whisper to? He looked at his eyes. “A wolf.” She swallowed. “What about me?” He went to her and said, and said just Look to me Clara shook her head. “Not happening. My mom is a teacher. Her dad don’t “I lost dad, Damien’s eyes said low. She thought she didn’t say anything. Did she mention how he lost?” Clara didn't say anything. “He met with an accident. He made a face That’s not the real one She tried to catch her breath. “How? He just stopped “Sit,” he said. They made fire. ThenDamien said There are other people just like us. What Someone told you” Clara covered her legs. “I just want the pain to end He looked sad as someone who have go through “What even. The pack is gone. And there was more What could save it? Her throat became tiny “There was His eyes found her. “It will Clara started to hug himself for warmth Just to be there standing. As he faced them,“They just took it.” Clara’s heart dropped. “Hunters ?” Wolves She said with confusion about the mess.“What are they? In her , She could just know.deep down Her eyes turned And all.“Damien,” she asked “You will feel the hurt When he hold was gentle. Heavy You will the Moon It will be brand new.
