CHAPTER THREE Olivia took out a dress from her wardrobe and threw it at Tanya. Tanya picked it up and gave a displeasing look. She stood from the bed and went to the wardrobe as she pushed Olivia aside. “What in the terror are these clothes?” Tanya screamed. “My clothes are not that bad,” Olivia said in defense. “You think?” Tanya scoffed as she kept flinging Olivia’s clothes out of the wardrobe one after the other. “Now, I can understand why they Liam Denvort came at you.” Tanya laughed. “It is not funny,” Olivia frowned and Tanya turned to her. “This is your first date in three years. You have to go prepared, hot, and sexy. Not in all these terror of the day and night you call clothes.” Olivia laughed. “You’re sick,” “You bet I am. I think we’ll have to visit my wardrobe. I wouldn’t trust you in any of these to charm a guy.” “To charm a guy? Tanya, I barely know this guy.” “So? You’ll get to know him eventually.” “I don’t think I want to go on this date. You know, I have a lot of things to deal with, adding a guy or date to that list is not the right action.” “All I hear are excuses to opt out from having a good time and living your best life,” Tanya said. “Do I deserve a best life? Tanya, Asher is…” “Don’t do that. Don’t do that to yourself. Live while you’re are it. Trust me, you’re doing great and I bet your parents, even Asher are proud of you. They wouldn’t want you living like a shadow.” Tanya coupled Olivia’s hands. Olivia exhaled and nodded. “You’re right. One date can’t be that bad.” “It is not bad at all.” Tanya smiled. She leaves Olivia’s hand and begins stuffing her clothes into the wardrobe. “Pack up, let’s see what my wardrobe has for you.” “Right,” Olivia said with a smile. Tanya was the best and maybe only thing that ever happened to her after her family’s misfortune. Without so many words or tears, Tanya understood her grief and her pain, which is why Olivia wouldn’t blame Tanya for seeking her happiness and forwardness so much. **** Liam dropped on his bed lifelessly as he tried to take off his necktie. He exhaled as he kicked off his shoes and crawled up his bed properly. These past two days have been crazy and he wasn’t so certain of how many more dates he could go on. He was never going to pick a wife from any of those rich, entitled, spoilt brats. Jake knocked on the door and entered. He chuckled as he saw Liam lying on the bed. Jake could tell already that all the dates had gone bad. He had been friends with Liam since high school and he knows him more than anyone. “That bad?” Jake asked as he dropped the wine and wine glass he brought with him on a table. Liam groaned and covered his face with his pillow. Jake poured the wine and Liam stood from the bed and sat on one of the chairs in his room. “I think my Grandpa is using this as a means to tie me down.” “I wouldn’t say tie you down. More like keep you in check.” Jake laughed. “Yo, man. This is serious.” Liam grabbed a glass from the table. “I agree. Though, he is right. Since we were not around in the last board meeting, I took the liberty to make some findings as to what was discussed.” Jake said and drank from his glass of wine. “And?” “Aside from the mergers project that was discussed, the board expressed their displeasure as to how your activities outside the company affect the company.” Jake dropped his glass. “It doesn’t look good.” Liam scoffed. “I bet Damian has started his move to take me down,” Liam said. “Do you think he has a hand in the constant publication of the scandals around you?” Jake asked. “No. I don’t believe him to be that smart. Still, I cannot underestimate him.” Liam responded. Jake’s phone chimes. He takes it out. His face turned blue as he looked at his phone. “What is it?” Liam asked. “One of the ladies the Chairman set up for you is in town. Her name is Linda Petcroff. She is asking for a meeting with you tonight.” Jake revealed, and then Liam groaned in frustration. **** Olivia adjusted her dress for the umpteenth time. She wasn’t comfortable in the tight, sequence dress but she was grateful Tanya put in the efforts to make her look good. When Olivia looked in the mirror, she could barely recognize herself. Tanya straightened her tousled hair, letting it slide to her shoulders. “Are you okay?” Olivia’s date asked her as he noticed the uneasiness that came with the dress. He wished she wore her simple T-shirt and jeans as she did the day he asked her out, but he couldn’t deny how beautiful she was tonight. “Yes,” Olivia said calmly. “You look stunning,” He complimented. Olivia smiled. It was the third time he would compliment her look. At first, she felt uncomfortable, but the second time, she believed it and now, she has gotten used to being a Cinderella. “Thank you, you look amazing too.” “I try,” He said with a laugh. “Excuse me, I want to use the restroom.” “All right,” Olivia said and watched him leave. She blushed. He was so cute and sweet. Maybe the week wasn’t so bad at all after her major wash-down at Denvort Corporations. He was a beast and if he was the last man on earth, she’d rather die alone than be with someone as brutal, rude, and arrogant as he was. Olivia’s phone buzzed. She rolled her eyes with a smile, she knew Tanya was going to check-in. She took out the phone from her purse, she stopped smiling as she answered the call. It was an emergency call from the hospital. Immediately after the call ended, she picked up her purse and ran out of the restaurant. She ran across the road mindlessly, all she cared about at that moment was Asher. Tears began to run down her cheek. Without looking at the traffic sign, she ran into the road while the sign turned green. A full headlight shone into her eyes, with blaring horns at full speed. Olivia closed her eyes and the next thing she knew, she was on the ground as she heard the brakes. For a few seconds, she stayed on the ground there, eyes still closed till she felt a gentle touch on her back. “Are you all right?” The person asked. The voice was mixed with worry and fear as he carefully raised her face. Olivia loved the warmth of his hands, she loved the misty scent that came from his neck as it felt familiar. She opened her eyes slowly with the hope of seeing who her angel was. “You!” Olivia pushed his hands off her body as she dismissed the thought of him being her angel. Liam looked at her and he knew that scowl would result in another scandal.
