Adrian Cole didn’t lose control.
Not in meetings.
Not in business.
Not in anything that mattered.
And Luca Reyes—
Was starting to matter.
“Cancel my 2:00.”
Adrian didn’t look up as he signed the document in front of him.
“You’ve already canceled three meetings today.”
Luca’s voice came from across the office.
Calm.
Observant.
Adrian’s pen paused.
Just for a second.
“That wasn’t a suggestion,” Adrian said.
Luca didn’t move.
Didn’t respond immediately.
Then—
“Or what?” he asked.
Silence.
Adrian looked up slowly.
His gaze locking onto Luca’s.
There it was again.
That challenge.
That refusal to bend.
“You’re testing me,” Adrian said quietly.
Luca shrugged.
“Maybe I’m trying to understand you.”
Adrian stood.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
He walked toward Luca.
Each step controlled.
Measured.
Until—
He stopped right in front of him.
Too close.
Again.
“You don’t need to understand me,” Adrian said.
“You just need to follow instructions.”
Luca’s eyes didn’t leave his.
“And if I don’t?”
That—
Was the wrong question.
Adrian reached out suddenly—
Grabbing Luca’s wrist.
Firm.
Unyielding.
The movement was fast.
Unexpected.
Luca froze.
Not from fear—
But from the shock of contact.
Adrian’s grip tightened slightly.
Not enough to hurt.
But enough to remind.
“You don’t get to challenge me,” Adrian said, his voice low.
Their eyes locked.
Closer than before.
Closer than necessary.
And for a moment—
Something shifted.
Because Luca didn’t pull away.
Instead—
He stepped closer.
Closing the distance even more.
“Then maybe you shouldn’t give me a reason to,” Luca said softly.
Adrian’s breath stilled.
This—
Was new.
No one stepped into his space like this.
No one pushed back.
No one looked at him like—
Like they weren’t afraid.
“Let go,” Luca added quietly.
Adrian didn’t.
Not immediately.
His eyes dropped—just for a second—
To Luca’s lips.
Then back up.
Something dangerous sparked between them.
Unspoken.
Uncontrolled.
And suddenly—
The room felt smaller.
Hotter.
Too quiet.
“Careful,” Adrian said, but his voice wasn’t as steady as before.
Luca noticed.
Of course he did.
A faint smile touched his lips.
“Why?” he asked softly.
Adrian didn’t answer.
Because he didn’t trust himself to.
For the first time—
Control was slipping.
And Luca was right there—
Watching it happen.
Adrian released his wrist abruptly.
Stepping back.
Breaking the moment.
“Get back to work,” he said sharply.
Luca didn’t move.
“Is that all?” he asked.
Adrian turned away.
“Unless you have something else to say.”
A pause.
Then—
Luca’s voice came, softer this time.
“You looked.”
Adrian froze.
Just for a second.
Then continued walking.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Luca smiled slightly.
“Sure you don’t.”
Silence fell again.
But this time—
It wasn’t calm.
It was charged.
Dangerous.
Because the line had been crossed.
Not fully.
Not yet.
But enough.
Enough to change everything.
