Chapter 2

Serene's pov I came into Kein’s household as a child, after being traumatized by watching my parents killed. Alpha kein took me in. Even though I was born a noble, I was treated no differently than a slave. All of these hardships made my wolf weak and unable to manifest. I was an outcast who couldn't even merge with her wolf. I thought my life would end miserably. Until Hunter, the son of Alpha Kein, approached me and told me I was his mate. I suddenly felt hope. For some time, I imagined a better life for myself. I never knew that Hunter's plan was just to use me, get the assets left behind by my parents, then dump me. The tears refused to stop pouring. I could not tell which hurt me more. The fact that Hunter cheated on me, or that I was dumb enough to let the only thing left of my family go like that. I was pumped with anger and sadness as well. I hit him hard across the chest. “How could you? You are despicable, you tricked me. I want it back.” He bundled both my hands in one fist. “Don't act more stupidly than you already have.” He breathed harshly into my face. I tried to pull away from him, but it was no use. I was no match for him. He threw me like a piece of rag on the bed. I was up and ready to jump on him again. Just then we paused, there was a loud noise coming from downstairs. Alpha Kein has returned. “Good,” I said without thinking. “I'll go report you to the alpha, even though he doesn't take me seriously. I'll let him and everyone know what you've done.” Hunter's eyes suddenly changed color. “You'd do no such thing,” he roared. “Stop me if you can.” I tried to make for the door, but he pulled me back aggressively by my hair. I yelped in pain, he shut the door behind him. My heart was beating wildly. Did he plan to kill me? To stop me from telling his father? Either way, I must inform the Alpha. I stood at a corner watching him wear his clothes, then I decided to make a run when he wasn't looking. I wasn't fast enough, he threw a vase at me, directly on my head. I fell to my knees from the impact, blood splattered on the wall. I did not believe it was my blood, until I felt the wetness running across my forehead. The room was spinning, I could barely hold myself. “I can't die here” I mumbled. Staggering, I made for the door, my fingers tipped almost at the knob when he pulled me back forcefully, throwing me on the shattered vase. “I told you before, you are going nowhere.” I tried to keep myself conscious, he was ready to leave. “Don't you dare leave this room, or I'll kill you and bury you without anyone noticing.” He relaxed his face, smiling his usual smile at me. I felt disgusted, he went out and locked the door from the outside. Blocking my chance of escaping. The hunter was a beast, a cruel, evil beast. He must have gone to tell the Alpha lies about me or make the story in his favor. That way, I wouldn't even stand a chance against him, no one would believe the outcast over the prince. I pulled myself off the ground, blood covered half my face. There was no way to open the door from the inside, so I went to the window. Fortunately for me, Hunter's room was only on the second floor of the building. I could manage to jump down from there. Although I might have sustained some injuries, I didn't care. The night was illuminated by the moon, and I climbed out of the room, balancing myself on the windowsill. I drew in a quick breath, ready to jump. I braced myself, and jumped. I half expected to have a broken leg, but I landed on a pile of trash. It gave way underneath me, soiling my clothes. I didn't wait a second before running out of the building into the woods. Hunter would not be able to catch me there. For some minutes, I ran without stopping, without looking back. My heels pounded the earth as I tried to pump speed into my legs. I finally stopped beside a huge tree to catch my breath. That was when I heard him. “Serene, I'm going to kill you.” Cold crept up my spine as I heard the hunter's voice from a little distance. There was no time to waste, I was already exhausted as I had already used all my strength to run. I didn't stop, it was either I kept on running or waiting to be killed. I could hear him getting closer, snarling with so much hatred. His voice was clearer now. I looked around panicky, there was nowhere for me to hide. Then I saw a huge rock. My legs could not keep on running. I hid behind it, and tried to keep myself from breathing hard so he didn't hear me. I did not hear Hunter either. Maybe he stopped chasing me. I was afraid to check. Out of nowhere, he appeared in front of me, holding a gleaming knife. “I'll make sure to end your miserable life here.” He spat in an evil way. I screamed and tried to run. He stabbed my leg. I shouted for help. No one was out there, it was just us. He dragged me by the stabbed leg onto the dirty ground, my nails digging into the earth as he brought me out to the open. He turned me over as I struggled to fight him off. With one blow, he pierced the knife into my chest. The grin never left his face. Blood splattered all over my face, I could not keep count of the times he stabbed me. My body became still, everywhere suddenly went blank and I passed out.
