Someone was crying close to me. The sound reminded me of a baby being choked to death. A bit too morbid? I listened closer to the cries; they faded the more I made an effort to hear them, and it dawned on me that the wailing was in my head. I tried to pry my eyes open, but they were too heavy. I felt like Atlas; holding up the weight of the world, except it wasn’t actually the weight of the world but that of my eyelids. The heavy feeling was constant throughout the expanse of my bones and my body, which oddly enough, I could feel every inch of.
