Watching Ruby conduct her spell was one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. My mate... my powerful, beautiful woman, surrounded by a magic vortex that had swirled around her like a tornado. It held me at bay while she’d conducted her spell, then as I was just about to charge into it, uncaring of what it would do to me, it dissipated.
I raced forward and dove as Ruby fainted, my heart leaping into my throat. I reached out and barely managed to get a hand under her head before she hit the ground.
“Ruby? Ruby! Wake up.”
