Red's POV
Damn that bastard wolf's claws. I had to go see the town's doctor yesterday because of these scratches on my arm. It doesn't hurt. But if it got infected then I wouldn't be able to fend myself off against those that are hunting me.
Hunting/ following/chasing, basically the same thing. They haven't caught up to me for a few years now. At first, it was funny. Terribly funny, I would mess with them just to piss them off. Deliberately allowing them to catch up with me only to raid their camps and hurt them. But now it's boring, it's lost its charm. There's no more thrill for me.
I head back into the forest to scout out ahead. I want to know what they would be able to use against me, or maybe even a fast escape route if need be. I'm walking some distance down the path to the next town when I hear a growl. f**k me! I turn to my side to see a very pissed-off wolf. The same werewolf from yesterday. What are the f*****g chances? What could he possibly want now? He walked up to me and threw a dagger on the path in front of me. I look down at the dagger, it looked like the one I used yesterday to pin my hood up to the tree. I raised my brow and watched him as crossed his arms against his chest.
"Red." He growled at me. "What did you see in my eyes?" It sounded more like a statement than a question. "Are we seriously doing this again?" I rolled my eyes before I bent down and picked up the dagger. Some of my hair fell into my line of vision. "Tell me." He growled out. I placed the dagger in a holster on my back and look ahead. "Like seriously dude, you've got some issues." I flip my hair out of my vision. "But thanks for bringing my dagger to me." He looked taken back by my last statement.
He shook his head before he grabbed my arm as I was going to take a step. "One more time, human." He growled. "What did you see in my eyes?" He said lowly and in a husky voice. I looked down at my arm. He seems to have grabbed me in the same spot as yesterday. I really don't want to visit the doctor in this town again. She asks too many questions.
The wolf loosens his grip on my arm before he moves it down to my forearm. "Your soul.". I say under my breath. "What?" he stepped closer to me. I rolled my eyes and tried to pull my arm from his grip. "Do you mind. I have other things planned for today." He didn't dig his claws in my arm like yesterday but he refuse to release my arm. "What did you say?" He leaned down to my shoulder. "And you called me deaf." I scuffed which made him growl down at me. "Your soul.". I said as he stood still and breathed by my ear.
I looked up at the sky as it was past midday already. "Hey. I've got things to do. May I go?" I tug on my arm. He seemed to be snapped back into reality before he let my arm go and stepped back.
I continued to walk down the trail while looking at campsites around at anything noticeable. Like trails, animals, openinwhatnotites, and whatnot. Something I could use to my advantage. When I look up I notice the sun's already going down. f**k. I turn round and start heading back to the town. I keep my eyes fixed in between the trees on either side of me. I do not like surprises, especially if there's a pack of wolves around here.
I think I'm halfway back to the town when something runs past my right side. I stop dead in my tracks and turn round to see it properly. Judging by the height it was, it was a werewolf. I take the two daggers out from behind my back, my favourite, silver and ivory dagger and the other plain dagger. I turn around until I see the wolf walking out into the trail. His blue eyes caught my attention immediately. Could it be the same wolf I keep running into?
I lower the daggers, "Wolf?" I stare at him confused. He sat on the trail and stared at me. I put the daggers back into the holsters. I take a couple of steps backward before I turn to continue to walk to the town. As I was going to take a step a growl came from behind me. What the f**k does he want now? I turn to face him, and he was standing in his human form staring me in the eyes.
Wolf's POV
I was walking down around when I came across her again. 'Go find out!' Raphael shouted in my head. 'What's your fascination with her nowadays? You haven't shut up about her since we met her?' I asked him as I stalked her. 'She physically assaulted us. She stopped us from putting an end to this pain.'
As I growled she stopped and turned towards me. I threw her dagger down in front of her. I crossed my arms over my chest trying my best to make myself intimidate her because the fact that she wasn't intimidated by me, pisses me off.
"Red.". I growled out. "What did you see in my eyes." I land up saying instead of asking. That is one question that has been bouncing around my head since she said it. "Are we seriously doing this again?" She rolled her eyes at me before she bent down and picked up the dagger. Some of her hair shifted out of place. She stood up and the loose bit covered her right eye.
"Tell me.". Raphael growled at her. She ignored me and placed the dagger in a holster on her back. "Like seriously dude, you've got some serious issues." She said before she flipped her hair behind her. It felt like I was watching her in slow motion. "But thanks for bringing my dagger to me." I watched her plump lips as she spoke.
'She thanked me, after everything that happened yesterday. What is she, Raph?' I asked him as I stare at her lips. He growled in my head, 'You can ask her once you have found out what she saw in our eyes that made her try to save us.' He continued to growl at me.
I grabbed hold of her arm as I see that she was about to continue down the trail. Again, she didn't flinch once I grabbed her arm, nor did she show any signs of fear. "One more time, human. What did you see in my eyes?" I growled at her. She looked down at my hand on her arm. I stare at the top of her head before I feel some material in my hand. I look down at where I was holding her and noticed she was bandaged up from yesterday. 'Why did she not flinch in pain?' Raphael asked. I move my hand down to her forearm and hold it looser than before.
"Your soul." She said out in a breath. Her voice as sweet as it was, shook me. A shiver ran down my spine giving me goosebumps. "What?" I tried to say but it felt like the air in my lungs have been squeezed out. I felt like I was going to fall forward because of her words. My soul. She saw my soul? I stepped forward to steady myself, but it only brought me closer to her. She wiggled her arm in my hand. 'Our soul? Sounds like a witch to me.' Raph growled out. 'But she doesn't smell like a witch.' I replied to him. 'How would you know? You haven't smelt her scent besides that hood that was soaked in our blood.' He growled at me. I mentally roll my eyes before I realized she was talking while Raph and I were talking. 'Good going, now we don't know what she said.' I growled at him.
"What did you say?" I asked as I leaned down to her shoulder. "And you called me deaf." She snorted. I couldn't help but want to smile at her tone which pissed Raph off something furious. He growled at her, which still does not affect her. "Your soul." She said. Again I felt like the air in my lungs have been squeezed out.
When I take a deep breath I smell the sweetest summertime honey. I couldn't help but enjoy the smell for a bit. Even Raph was calming down and was even doing some sort of purring..? 'Dude, are you okay?' I asked him but he didn't reply.
Her voice broke the silence. "Hey. I've got things to do. May I go?" I stared down at her as I released her arm. I watched her as she walked away, the smell leaving with her.
'Follow her!' Raph barked at me. 'Seriously dude? For what reason now?' I growled at him. He kept quiet as she disappeared. 'Why did she smell so sweet? Isn't the only one that's supposed to smell sweet is our mate.' I asked him. 'SHE'S BEWITCHED US! Go make her reverse the spell!' Raph growled at me. 'When did she do that?' I ferry my brow at him. 'Who cares!' He shouted at me. 'Go make her undo it!' I started walking in the direction she went off in. I can't say that I disagree with him. If she did bewitch us, then she has to undo it. I will not be anyone's puppet, especially a witch's.
It's getting late and doesn't seem like she's going to come back. I turn into my wolf and run ahead. I need to find her before she disappears leaving me bewitched like this. When I get her insight she turned around and started heading back to the town. I'm at full speed so it takes me some time to stop. I run past her and turn and stop on the trail. She stopped and turned towards me with both the daggers in her hand. She looked at me before lowering the daggers, "Wolf?" She looked confused at me. I sit down on the trail and watched what she would do next. She placed the daggers back in their holsters. She took a couple of steps backward before she turned to continue her walking.
'Stop her!' Raph roared in my head. I growled at her before I turned back into my human form. As she turned back to face me. I looked into her eyes. 'Mate.' Raph gulped. 'What do you mean? She doesn't look anything like our mate.' I growled back at him. 'Mate! Mate!' Raph howled in my head. 'She's not Crystal, asshole.' I growled back at him. 'Mate. Mate. Mate.' He howled happily.
While I was busy arguing with that, now, delusional wolf. I became more and more convinced she had indeed bewitched us.
When I block him I notice she's not around anymore. 'f**k it Raph, she's gone now. How am I supposed to undo that spell now?' I growled at him. 'Follow mates scent. Go to mate.' He howled happily in my head. I haven't heard him like this since before we lost Crystal. Part of me doesn't want to undo this spell. It's been so long since I've heard him this happy. He's like a lovesick puppy again. I take his advice and follow her scent. But I decided to do it too late. She's gone into the town already.
I was going to enter when a team of hunters enter the town. Since when do hunters travel in such groups? And what do they want here in my territory? I look at them before I make my way back to the cave.
'Mate?' Raph whimpered in my head. 'I'll find her tomorrow and make her undo the spell.' I don't mind hearing him happy again but he's giving me a headache. Raph went to the back of my head and whimpered throughout the night.
Red's POV
I left him standing like a statue on the trail because he was starting to annoy me. He just stood there and stared at me. That was super creepy, and it takes a lot to creep me out.
I wash before I change into some clean clothes and go to get a loaf of bread from the baker. As I walked out of the bakery, I notice everyone is whispering and looking at one of the town's entrances. I looked around some people and get a good look at the person who was leading a group of men. It's the leader of the group that is hunting me. s**t! s**t! s**t!
I duck behind a lot of people and make my way back to the inn. For f**k sake! How did they find me so quickly? Did they travel throughout the night to catch me? I sneak back into the inn and get my stuff. I opened the door and was about to go out the front door when I see the leader downstairs asking the landlord something.
Fuck me.
I sneak back to my room and lock the door. I open the window and climb out of it. I grabbed hold of the branch of a nearby tree and climb down to the street. I sneak around all the shadows and alleyways I could find. I can't take the chance of them seeing me. I won't be able to outrun this many men.
I sneak out onto someone's farm to get to a further part of the trail. I hear a gunshot echoing in the distance. I've got no time to turn and see if someone is following me or not. I hold tightly onto the basket and run to the trail so I can get to the next town as fast as possible. Maybe I will only rest a bit before I move along to another town. I will probably need to go as far as three towns over or more before I can rest properly.
Wolf's POV
'Raph shut the hell up and let me sleep!' I growl at him. He keeps whimpering in my head. I've been tossing and turning but I can't get to sleep because of his whimpering.
I hear the faint sound of a gunshot coming from the town. 'Mate!' Raph shouted. I jump to my feet, shift into my wolf, and head to the town. 'Mate's in trouble!' He howled. I passed one of the farms when her scent hit me. It was coming from down the path, leading away from the town.
Could they have been chasing her? The mere thought made Raph growl loudly. I make my way down the path when she comes into view. Is she running down to the next town?
Before I can get closer to her, someone jumped out at her and pushed her off the trail. Red drops the stuff she was carrying she flipped herself into a battle stance with the two blades in hand. The person that pushed her stood up, hissing as she bared her fangs at her. A female vampire. She lunged for Red but before I could get to her, Red made fast work slitting the female vampire's throat. The female vampire fell to the floor. Red knelt and closed the vampire's eyes.
As I moved closer to her, I stepped on a twig. Her head snapped up before she returned to her battle stance. She stared at me before she seemed to relax a bit more. "Wolf?" She said sounding confused and irritated. She put the daggers away and picked up her things. "I can't stay here and play your games anymore." She said to me. I shifted back into my human form and walked up to her. "Why?" She looked up at me, confusion was written on her face. "Because I don't want to die." She titled her head to the side while she said it like it was obvious.
I took her basket off her and pulled on her arm. "I know somewhere where you can hide from them." She folded her arms and glared at me. "And what do you want in return?" I smiled down at her, "You will undo the spell you put on me."
She stepped back and started laughing uncontrollably. 'She's got a cute laugh.' Raph sighed with happiness in my head.
"I'm no witch, wolf." She took her basket off me. "I'm not suicidal either." She smiled before she turned to go back to the path. I grab her around the waist and carried her to the cave I'd been staying in.
Raph was howling loudly in my mind as her scent surrounded me. I felt so happy holding her and it just confused me more. How could she be my mate when Crystal was my mate?
Red brought me out of my thoughts when I felt a gun against my back. "Put me down, before I pull this trigger." She said. I put her down as she pointed the gun at my face. "Don't think I won't comply with your f*****g wish to die if you get in my way."
'Where did she get that gun?' Raph asked me. I stared down at her. She's threatening to kill me even though she stopped me from killing myself?
"Red. I know a cave you can hide in till the hunters leave." I stepped back and raised my hands. "But you think I'm a witch that has bewitched you..." She rolled her eyes at me. "If we go to the cave, I'll explain why I thought that. Please." she stared me in the eyes before putting the gun into the basket. "f**k it. Fine. My options are limited anyway." She said before she looked back at me.
'She sure does swear a lot.' Raph moaned in my head.
I picked up her basket and held out my hand towards her. "This way, Red." She rolled her eyes and stepped to the side of me. She motioned with her eyes for me to go forward. I walked to the cave with her behind me. She didn't say much but was looking around the whole time.
"Why don't you come to walk next to me?" I say. I look back at her as her arms were folded against her chest. She looked at me from head to toe before she snorted. "Are you afraid I'll point another gun at you?" She asked. I let out a breath laugh before I slow my pace and allow her to catch up. "Maybe." She laughed. "Believe me, if I wanted you dead, you would have died, a long time ago." She snorted out.
I looked over at her. "Speaking of killing me. Why did you try to save me?" She rolled her eyes, "Think of it logically." She said as she looked up at me. "I'm running from those hunters if they find my dagger in your chest..." She trailed off. "You could have taken the dagger out and left me there." She rolled her eyes and huffed. "f*****g dense, aren't we." She whispered out. "That would make it look more suspicious." She glared at me. "So why not leave the dagger?" She stopped and glared at me. "f**k, seriously? That dagger was custom-made. Like hell, I'll leave it behind."
I stop and turn to look at her as seemed pissed. "If you really want to die, then I'll help you with that." She walked up to me. "If it is something so f*****g important to you. Then I'll kill you if you are that obsessed with dying." Her face plastered red now.
Raph whimpered in my head as she said that. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to take the blame for my death.". I said to her. Her eyes flickered with confusion. "I was tired of hurting and you had brought a means for me to end it." She shook her head and stormed off ahead of me. She was mumbling under her breath, but she was mumbling too fast the only words I could hear were the swear words. And that was almost every third or fourth word. "Red, I'm sorry." I tugged on her arm to pull her in the right direction. She refused to talk or even look at me. I clearly pissed her off something bad.
When we got to the cave and allowed her to walk in first before I went in behind her. "It's not much but they won't be able to find you here. Especially if they think it's my den."
She glared at me from the corner of her eye before she looked forward and sat down facing the cave's wall. "Start explaining." She said sounding pissed. "I thought you were a witch because." She cut me off before I could explain. "From the BEGINING!" She shouted at me. I looked at her confused. She turned around and nestled down facing me. Her arms folded against her chest. "Why the f**k were you trying to kill yourself? What the f**k are you hurting from?" She glared at me the entire time.
I took a deep breath before I mustered up enough strength to speak about it. "A pack-less wolf, known as a rogue, poisoned my mate with wolfsbane. Raph has been making any relationship I had tried to form with any female, hell. He was hurting so much from losing Crystal." I looked up at her as she looked curious and confused at the same time.
"Crystal was my mate's name. She was pregnant with my pups at the time she was poisoned. When I found the rogue I ripped him to pieces." She still looked confused. "After some years of pain and loneliness, I couldn't take it anymore."
She gave her head a slight nod before she motioned I should carry on. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair. "I've tried multiple times, in multiple ways to kill myself. When you came to me with a silver dagger, I couldn't believe that I was holding in my hands a means to end my suffering." She uncrossed her arms and softened her gaze. "Then you came and removed it from my chest and tried to save me. I was furious with you and more at the fact that you weren't scared or intimidated by me." I sat down in front of her.
"Why weren't you scared of me? And please don't tell me it was something you saw in my eyes." I chuckled. A laugh blurted out her mouth like it was unplanned. She stopped herself and tried to look upset. "Stop getting f*****g sidetracked, dumbass. You're not f*****g down yet." She tried to glare at me, but I could see she was amused by my comment.
"Raph and I had to find out what you had seen in my eyes that made you want to save us." I stopped and looked up at her. "So you thought I was a witch because I saved you..?" She looked confused at me. "Actually Raph wouldn't..." She glared at me, "You keep mentioning Raph. I assume he's a friend of yours?" Raph howled in delight as she mentioned his name. "Raphael. That's my wolf's name." She pulled back in confusion. "Your wolf form has a name?" I take it that she doesn't know much about werewolves.
"All werewolves have a wolf inside them. But they don't use the same name as the human forms." She shook her head and motioned with her hands for me to stop.
"Again, back to the story." She huffed over and looked up at me. "Raph wouldn't shut up about you. So when I found you and smelt you..." She bawled her fists. "Then I looked in your eyes. I thought for sure that you had bewitched me." She rolled her eyes before she turned her back to me and laid down. "I think you might have poisoned as well." She said. I nudged closer to her. "Why?" She chuckled before she answered. "Because you're brain doesn't seem to work anymore. You thought I was a witch because of the way I smelled?" She scuffed. "Now, I've f*****g heard everything."
Red's POV.
He thought I was a witch because of my smell? I should have left him to die when I had the chance. What hell is he trying to say? That I stink? That f*****g bastard wolf. How dare he?!
I have to remain calm. Take a deep breath. If I kill him now the hunters will be on me like flies. I had to remind myself. I just turned and laid down on the floor. Keep calm. Keep calm.
"Red?" He said in that husky voice of his. "Why are running from the hunters?" I open my right eye and glare at him. "Where do you think I got the gun from?" I said before I closed my eye and tried to remain as calm as possible. "That was a lot of hunters for one gun Red..." He trailed off. I scuff before answering him. "I know right."
I hear him shift closer to me again. What the hell does he want? Being so f*****g close to me. I hear him scuffle along the floor but I choose to ignore him. Maybe he will think I fell asleep..... Okay, maybe he won't but he'll think I'm tired.
I practically jump out my skin when something furry brushes up against my skin. I sat up and turned to see him in his wolf form laying down next to me facing the entrance of the cave. f**k my life, I practically felt my soul leaving my body. He picked up his head and looked at me with those blue eyes of his. Note to self. Either remember what was so special about those eyes or ask him. It's gonna drive me batty.
He watched me as I laid down further away from him. As I was closing my eyes I saw him turn his head towards the entrance.
As I'm watching him I notice some unnatural colouring nearby the cave entrance. When I look at it properly it was my hood. I stared at it confusedly before looking down at him as he closed his eyes. Was he using my hood to track my scent? That's would explain why he kept popping up.
I don't understand this wolf. The first time I saw his blue eyes they were dull and lifeless; now they are practically burning bright. What the hell happened to this suicidal asshole to change that?
That was the last thought that ran through my mind before I was engulfed in sleep.
