Wolf's POV
I must have fallen asleep because I opened my eyes as I heard a whimper. I stretched my back before I stared at the entrance. It's starting to get dark outside. We've been here all day. That explains why my ass is numb.
I held Red in my arms as I stood up. Another whimper came from her throat. 'She's having another nightmare.' I said to Raph. 'Hold mate closer.' He whimpered. 'So you can...' I growled at him. 'She can be calmed by her mate's presence.' He whimpered out. He had a point: whenever Crystal had a nightmare, all I had to do was pull her close and she would be at ease.
I pull her closer to my chest after another whimper escapes her lips. Her body started to tense up as she started to shake. I sat down and held her close. "It's alright, Red. I won't let them take you." I cooed in her ear. Another whimper left her lips and she started to squirm in my lap. 'Does she even feel the mate bond?' I asked Raph. Raph just continued to whimper every time she did.
I leaned my head on her forehead. "It's okay Red. The only day they will lay a hand on you will be their last." She takes a sharp breath as she sits up. Headbutting me on the nose as she sat on my lap and looked at me as I held my nose. "Red?" I said through gritted teeth.
'Mate! Mate is awake!' Raph howled in my head. 'Why were we ever worried about her? That head of hers is as hard as iron.' I said to him.
"What happened?" She said as she looked around the cave. 'She doesn't remember?' Raph had a hint of happiness in his voice. 'Thank the moon Goddess.' I replied to him.
"I'm sorry, Red. We were talking and when I heard the hunters come closer, I flung you into the cave. I didn't realize I threw you that hard into the wall. Once they were gone, I came back in and found you on the floor." I said as she swayed a bit while looking around. "What did the hunters say?" She said as she slowly lifted herself off my lap. "They said they were looking for you. And that if they found you, that you wouldn't be able to bother anyone anymore." I said and watched her as she continued to look round. "And what did you say?" She turned and looked up at me. "I told them that I ran into you two days again and I haven't seen you since." She tilted her head and gave a sincere smile that made me want to just scoop her up and never let her go. "Thank you." She said.
'Did she just thank us?' Raph said. 'She did. You better not do anything like that again. Or I swear I'll find a silver chain and chain us to a tree.' I growled at him.
A loud grumble came from my stomach, taking me out of my conversation with Raph. I turned to Red. "Sor..." She had her hand in front of her mouth as her shoulders bounced. She's laughing at us. She's too cute, the way she's trying to hide it. "I'm sure you're hungry as well. Let me go hunt something down for us. Will you wait inside the cave for me?" She stood up on wobbly legs and nodded her head. "Take it easy till I return. You hit your head when I threw you back in." Her eyes widened before they returned to normal. "Now it makes sense." She said as I walked out of the cave and shifted into my wolf to get something to eat.
After I caught a deer, I dragged it back to the cave. 'Mate won't eat rare meat. We'll need to build a fire.' Raph mumbled in my head. 'Yeah, you're right.' The closer I got to the cave the more I realized that there was a fire by the entrance. 'Mate!' Raph yelled.
I came out of the bushes to see Red bending down in front of the fire. Feeding it more wood so it will keep burning. I shifted back and dragged the deer along the ground.
"Red?" I said as I went around her. She looked up at me as she fed the fire. "I would have done that. You need to rest." She rolled her eyes and looked back at the fire. "It was one f*****g bump. You honestly think that would have been enough to put me out of commission?" She glared at me through the corner of her eye.
'Seems as if mate is back to normal.' Raph griped. 'Thank the moon goddess she is.' I huffed back at him.
"Well..." I said before she pointed a knife at me. I froze and stared down at it. 'Did she remember?' Raph gulped. She flipped it in her hand and held it up to me. "You do know how you use this, don't you?" She stood up and asked me like I'm stupid. "Of course I do." I couldn't help feeling irritated with her tone. She sat down by the fire and watched me work on the deer.
I have to admit. My pride has gotten me into some s**t before, but this could be part of the top five. She's watching me as I slice this poor thing to death. I was especially struggling with the skin. Like it just didn't want to come off.
I heard Red sigh before coming up behind me. "Let me." She said as she sat on her knees. "Hold up the legs for me. Seeing as you started butchering it." She said, sounding annoyed. I watched as she started to skin it perfectly and started to cut into it like a pro. 'She has done this before. Unlike you.' Raph laughed in my head.
"Wolf." She said as she started to dissect the deer. "Why were my daggers at the other end of the cave?" I stared down at the dagger in her hand. I couldn't help but let my eye line move over to her dagger in its holster. I closed my eyes as I sighed. "Raphael had taken control and was being aggressive. He pinned you to the wall and threw your daggers to the end of the cave." She kept quiet as she continued. "When the hunters came, he meant to push you further in but wound up flinging you instead. I'm sorry and so is he."
She stopped what she was doing and sat back on her feet. She slapped me across the face with her free hand. "Why didn't you f*****g tell me that in the first place?" She glared at me. "I'm sorry. I didn't want you to leave while the hunters are still here."
She turned her attention back to the deer and continued.
"Go get some pots and pans." She said as she continued. "Red, I don't own...." She glared up at me before she returned to the deer. "Go check my backpack." So, I did as I was told. Although I do not like being ordered around, I will happily obey as long as it's my mate.
I reached down and stopped. This is her stuff. Is it alright to go through it? I stare down at the bag before I hear Red sounding pissed. "What the hell is taking so long? Why are you just staring at it?" I turned and saw her by the entrance. "But this is yours..." She rolled her eyes. "I gave you f*****g permission." She said and turned around. "If you ain't back in three minutes I'm gonna skin something else, and it won't be another deer." I turned back and scrambled to open the bag.
Once I unclipped the rain protector, I noticed the pots were right on top of the zipper of the bag. I internally faced palmed myself. I grabbed them and walked back to her. I sat there, embarrassed by the thought that she wouldn't have thought that I was going to see her clothes and underwear. I caught her having a glimpse at me with this sadistic smile she was trying to hide. "You did that on purpose.". I said to her as she tried to stop smiling. "Did what?" She sounded amused and I knew she knew why I was hesitant. I started laughing as I sat back and watched her work.
Thank you, Moon Goddess, for blessing me with another mate. Though I'm not sure if I'm ever going to get used to her.
Red's POV
I couldn't stop chuckling once I caught him staring at the bag like I asked him to bring me my underwear. And then he started to laugh, a husky laugh which made it impossible for me to f*****g control my own anymore.
I owe him. He saved my bacon from the hunters.
Oh, bacon... I wonder if I can make bacon from this deer... I look down as I start taking it apart. Probably not. They have little to no fat on them. I bet those ribs will be tasty. I wonder if he's able to cook over an open flame?
I glared at him. "What did I do now?" He whined at me. "Is your cooking skill on par with your knife skill?" I raised my brow as I watched him have a conversation with Raphael. I figured that when his eyes glazed over like that he and that horny f*****g wolf of his were speaking. "No," he said bluntly. "So you can cook?" He nodded his head.
Well, at least he can cook. I pointed down to the pots. "Well then? You waiting for your stomach to desert?" He started chuckling before he grabbed the pots. I'm gonna do the ribs myself. I ain't gonna let him f*****g burn them.
Once I got the right side of ribs off, I walked to the fire. I started cooking it. Now and then, Wolf would offer to taste test to make sure it was cooked. I got so tired of him that I told him to f**k off. And if anyone was going to taste test, it would be me.
I slice into the ribs and blow on them. I eye Wolf to make sure he's watching. I f*****g told you. I couldn't even put it in my mouth when I saw him giving the puppy dog eyes. Whether it was intentional is a f*****g mystery to me. I cut it in half and walked up to him before I waved it above his face. "You want some Wolfie?" He followed the piece and gulped. I held the piece up to him. I expected him to take it out of my hand, but he took it out with one big chomp. I pulled my hand back and started counting fingers. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. All there. f*****g beast.
I shook my head and put the other piece in my mouth. He stared at me like he was going to come get it out of my mouth. I turned and pulled it off the fire and set it down in a pot. Wolf was standing over my shoulder, watching me work. Will he just f**k off for two seconds?
"Wolf, the pot." He immediately knelt to the one I was working with. I poked his head. "The one you're supposed to be cooking, dumbass." He looked confused before he remembered and made his way over to the pot in a hurry.
I chuckled softly to myself. He's not so f*****g bad. He just needed some companionship. And he's so f*****g hot. Hmmm. I could be stuck in a worse situation.
He came over with the pot. Lifting the pot lid, making the whole air reek of burnt food. He closed the pot lid and looked at me. Time for some more entertainment. "Well, that can be yours and this can be mine then." His jaw dropped as he stared at the ribs as I separated them. He took the pot and sat down and started to try and eat it.
What the hell? Where's the fight? Where's the that's not fair? Where's my f*****g entertainment?!
I sat back and watched him. I picked up the pot that held the ribs and sat down next to him. Placing the ribs in between us before moving the other pot away. "You're such a f*****g killjoy wolf.". I said before I started eating. "But I burnt it." He said. "Well genius, do you want a f*****g award for pointing out the obvious?" He just stared at me. I rolled my eyes as I lifted a rib to him. "Here's your f*****g award." He let out a breathed chuckle before he took it off me. "Thank you, Red."
"What else do you want to burn?" I said before looking over at the deer. He didn't reply for a while. I turned and looked over at him as he was busy biting down on the bone like he hadn't eaten for weeks. I shook my head and walked over to the deer and severed its leg. I go towards the fire and start cooking it. I sat back down and stared at the bones that were left. By the time I finished one, he had polished the rest. And now he's busy with the last one.
Fucking bastard! I cooked those!
I glared at him. But he was too busy eating like he'd never eaten deer before. I rolled my eyes and watched as the leg cooked. I was going to let him have it alone, but f**k him since he doesn't know how to f*****g share.
He started nibbling on the bone and reached down for another. I watched as he tried to get another one but there were none. I rolled my eyes again before I looked back at the leg.
He grabbed onto my thigh. I looked down at his hand as he squeezed my thigh. I heard him drop the bone onto the others as he pulled me closer. He looked at me confused, he looked at where his hands were before he squeezed me again. "Are you done?" I asked with a raised brow. He released my thigh. "Sorry Red." I rolled my eyes before I went over to the leg. I pulled it off and walked towards him. "When last did he f*****g eat anyway?" Again my voice couldn't penetrate his focus on the meat. I put it down in the pot. He instinctively reached for it. "No.". I say as I take the knife out to cut a piece for myself. He grabbed the leg and growled at me.
Did he just f*****g growl at me? I stood up and walked round to his side and knelt while I cut a chunk out of it. He growled again at me. Well, payback is a b***h, and so am I. After I got my chunk, I lifted myself, ass first. Making sure to give him a clear view of my ass. He growled again but he grabbed hold of my waist and pulled me down onto his lap. He grabbed the leg and started eating it while his other hand snaked around me.
"Oh, so you can see me.". I said as I watched him take a bite. "Why would you think I can't?" He mumbled while he chewed. I picked up the piece and took a bite. "Because you've been ignoring me." I tried to stand up but I was pulled back down. I turned to look at him and his eyes were blue. "Sorry, but I'm in love with your cooking." He said, showing me a toothy grin.
Wolf's POV
Fuck, these ribs were delicious. Why aren't there anymore?
I watched as Red made her way to the fire and picked up a leg from the fire. It smells divine. Oh, Moon Goddess. I will never doubt you again.
Red bent down and started to cut into it. No, that's mine! I growled at him, which led her to glare up at me. She stood up and walked round to my side and blocked me from getting to it. When she had taken a piece off, she stood up, showing me her ass as she stood. Raph growled loudly out of lust in my head. 'Don't!' I growled back at him. Raph took control all of a sudden and pulled her down into our lap. Then he grabbed the leg and started to devour it. Raph moved his free hand round her waist. "Oh, so you can see." She said as I ripped some meat away from the rest. "Why would you think I can't?" Raph asked her. 'Dude learn some manners, you're still chewing the meat.' I grumbled at him. She picked up the chunk she had cut off and started eating. "Because you've been ignoring me."
In the corner of my eye, I noticed that we didn't share with her and I was ready to eat that entire deer by myself. Guilt slowly started to set in.
Red brought me out of my thoughts when she tried to stand up. 'Where do you think you're going, missy?' Raph growled with delight in my mind. She turned and looked me in the eyes. I'm sure they were blue since Raph had taken control. "Sorry, but I'm in love with your cooking." He said before grinning at her. She seemed to be staring at my mouth, meaning my fangs must be showing. She pulled away from our grip. 'Did our fangs frighten her away?' Raph whimpered before allowing me to take back control.
She stood up and made sure to move the pot so I would have to choose what to save. It was either let go of her or lose the leg. I'm
sure she wasn't going anywhere except to sit next to us, so I chose to save the leg. She sat there staring at the fire while eating.
"So much for your cooking skills.". She said as she picked up the pot and looked down at the burnt stuff. I don't even know what was in there, but honestly, I'm glad I burnt it. She emptied the contents of the pot on the fire and came back to sit next to me.
"Red?" I called her before taking another bite. "The hunter said something else..." I trailed off trying to figure out if what he had said was true and why. "That I killed twenty of his men?" She asked me as she smiled into the fire. "Yeah... Is it true?" She sat still for a moment before she smiled widely. "Yes, it is." I gulped down the meat in my mouth. "Why?" I asked, too curious for my good. She turned to me with that sadistic smile of hers. "Oh, so he goes around telling people I killed his men, but not why? Hmmm." She tilted her head from side to side. "Sounds like he's trying to protect his men's imagines. But then, what could be worse not being able to kill one," She pulled her head back as she fluttered her shoulders back and forth with each of the following words. "itty bitty, little girl?" She asked with this cute child-like face.
'She's got a point. But then we never asked him why.' Raph said in my mind. "But I'm asking you why not him. I don't want to hear lies from a hunter." I said as I continued to make quick work of the leg. "Hmmm." She said playfully. "What makes you think I won't lie?" She leaned back and held herself up by her arms. "Because I've caught you in one already.". I said to her. Her eyes widened as she recalled what she said to me. Her playful expression disappeared as she turned to the fire and glared at it.
She clicked her tongue before she spoke. "That group of hunters was run by a man who thought women were just things to please men." She said as I finished the leg. "So, that's why you killed them?" She looked at me from the corner of her eye. I'd never seen her eyes hold this emotion before. She looked hurt and, maybe, disgusted. "Yes." She said before looking back at the fire.
What could have happened for her to hold such emotions? She killed them, I would have expected guilt. But disgust? Hurt? I couldn't help but growl at the thought that they had done something unspeakable to my mate.
Unfortunately, the growl wasn't in my head, but rather out loud. She turned to me and raised her brow. "And then? What's your f*****g problem?" She looked at me. She looked pissed. "Sorry Red. I just hate hunters." She looked confused before she turned back to the fire. I saw her lips moving as she whispered out. "And people call me the psychopath."
After eating, Red was in the cave sharpening, I don't know how many, knives. Once she's done with one, she reaches into that basket of hers and sharpens another. She hasn't said a word nor looked at me since we came back into the cave.
I want to talk to her but what should I say? 'Hey, mate why don't we get to know more about each other?' Raph butted in. 'Dude, she doesn't know we're mates. I don't even know how to explain how I could have two mates.' I grumbled back to him. 'Okay, how about this? I think you sexy and want to get it on.' Raph growled with lust. 'f**k dude, keep it in your pants.' I mentally wished to slap him now. 'We have. That's the problem.' he growled at me. 'That's not my fault. That's yours.' I growled back at him.
When I looked up after arguing with Raph, I saw Red staring at me very curiously. "You look f*****g demented when you argue with Raphael, you know that, right?" She said as she sharpened another knife. Raphael howled in delight and was running circles in my head. Only a very few times has she referred to Raph as my wolf, otherwise, she's called him by name. "I've been told that." I chuckled out. She made an effort to put an end to the silence. I have to keep it up.
"Where'd you get all those knives?" I looked as she placed the one she was sharpening down with the others and reached into the basket. She looked me in the eyes while she began to sharpen another. She never took her gaze off me. "From my victims." She said, with no hint of emotion. A cold shiver ran down my spine. "Victims?" She simply put the knife down before getting another one. "One for each of them to be exact." She said, her eyes never leaving mine. "How many are there?" I hesitantly asked. "Two hundred and forty-seven at the moment. Excluding the one that you brought back and my silver one."
Two hundred and forty-seven? What the hell has she been doing, killing two hundred and forty-seven people? Is it some sort of hobby? She seems to enjoy hurting and messing with people, but killing is on a whole other level.
She muffled her chuckle before she looked down as she sharpened a knife. "Is something amusing?" I asked her, I'm not sure if I should be this close to her anymore. 'Mate, won't hurt us.' Raph growled at me. 'How do you know? I don't know about you but I don't want to die by my mate's hands.' I said to him. "You are." She replied. "You ask a question then you're petrified of the answer you hear." She looked up at me as she took out another knife. "Why did you f*****g ask if you didn't want to know?" She put the sharpening belt down on her lap. She twirled the knife on her thigh. The blade tip pressed down on her thigh.
"I'm sure you can see very well at night. But I'm also sure you haven't noticed that each knife or dagger has a name carved into it." She said as she held the blade in place. I looked at her curiously. "Whose name?" I couldn't help but ask. She handed the knife to me. I looked down and saw a name on it. "Daniel Colad?" I looked at her as she handed me another. "Jeramia Ferd?"
And then it dawned on me, each dagger was a memento from each kill. Those are their names. The name of each of her victims.
"Those two are particularly important." She said before she crawled closer to me. "Why?" She ran her hand over the knife's blade in my lap. "These two were rapists." She said.
What?
"Humans, wolves, vampires, children. They didn't care what you were, if you were a female you were their playthings." She said before taking the knives off me. "So they were part of the hunter's team?" I asked. She looked up at me. Our faces were inches away from each other.
All I wanted to do was to kiss her and hold her tight. I wanted her to know she was my mate.
"No. They weren't. These two were preying on the innocence of their towns. Until one day..." She smiled up at me. "Someone didn't want to play ball." She was some kind of savior then. She chuckled and brought a knife to my cheek. "Believe me, most of them should have been taken care of years ago, just nobody wanted to." She slid the blade down my cheek. She was so gentle as she did, she never once cut me. "And the others?" I asked, trying to hide the arousal I felt for her at the moment. "Most weren't as bad, nothing major. They just happened to piss off the wrong person."
Her words, as dangerous as the meaning behind them were, aroused me. She slid the knife down my neck and chest, "We are talking about dead people's names. But what about yours?" I asked, trying to hold myself together. The knife stopped on my chest as she had to tip by my heart. "Does that matter in this situation?" She hummed lowly. "To me, it does.". I said to her. "They call me the Little Red Psychopath." She lifted her eyes and stared directly into mine. She looked crazed like she was one step away from plunging it deep into my chest, but I'm sure she won't.
She feels the mate bond. I'm sure of it. She's just been toying with me because she's bored. Otherwise, why would she take care of me to this extent?
Her smile faded for a bit when I didn't give her the reaction that she wanted. "That's a cute nickname. But what's your real name?" I asked. I see a twinkle in her eye like she just got an idea. She started to press the dagger into my chest, allowing a bit of blood to start to come out. "That's what you can call me. Or Red for short."
'I would rather call you mine.' Raph said. I couldn't agree more.
When I didn't flinch or move away, the twinkle in her eye left and she started looking annoyed. She pulled the dagger back and started mumbling under her breath. I only got a few choice words, half of them again were swearwords and the other went along the line of me being a killjoy. I chuckled and held her hand as she reached for the sharpening belt.
I smiled down at her. "What's the matter, Red? Not having fun?" She glared at me and pulled her hand away. She pouted her lips and continued to sharpen the rest of the knives. 'She's too cute. Look at that pout.' Raph went on in my head. Now that I've got most of her figures out, she's not that hard to understand.
"Killjoy." She spat out as she finished the last one and started packing the rest back in the basket. "You have an odd sense of enjoyment, Red.". I say and nudge closer to her as she packs them away. "Well, you're the one who won't let me leave. So how else must I be f*****g entertained?" She glared down at the basket but I'm sure it was meant for me.
'I have an idea' Raph growled with lust. 'Stop it.' I said to him.
"Can't we just talk without someone getting hurt?" She looked at me in the corner of her eye before smiling, "Where's the fun in that?" She said so innocently. "My name's Damien Blackheart." I started, maybe she'll follow my lead and tell me her name. "I'm the Little red psychopath. Nice to meet ya." She said and closed the basket, threading it closed. She'll tell me, in due time. I tried to think of what else to say but I figured she wouldn't tell me anyway.
Then I remembered something she asked this morning. "Red, what's so special about the full moon?" I asked her, remembering how panicked she was when I told her. "Besides it being a crazy magnet? Nothing that I know of." She's lying again, but I'll see for myself tomorrow night. "Yeah. All the psychos are out." She snorted at my comment. She held her hand in front of her mouth and nose as she tried not to laugh. "Not all." She said as she removed her hand from her mouth. "Yeah, well I'm not too sure for who's own good I am doing it for.". I said sarcastically. Earning me another heartwarming laugh from her.
