Jax didn't return home until past three in the morning. I couldn't sleep. I was sitting on the same couch waiting for him to come back. I couldn't help but be worried about him.
He stumbled in, a tired and exhausted look on his face as he flung his jacket to the couch- well, my face, earning a slight whimper from me.
“Oh my goodness, baby. What are you doing here?” He asked in worry as he took the jacket off and sat beside me. I immediately wrapped my arms around him and he pulled me to straddle him immediately.
“Why did you wait for me? You can't be sleep-deprived because of me, okay?” He reprimanded me and I couldn't help but smile with how worried he was for me.
My smile faded when I leaned closer and I could smell a different perfume on him. A woman's type if I'm not wrong. I sniffed again and I was right, it was a woman's scent. I trusted Jax but I had to be sure I wasn't jumping to conclusions.
“Jaxie? Did you change perfumes recently? I smell a new one on you.” I said truthfully and he froze for a second before he let out a sigh and made me look at him.
“You're right, that's a woman's perfume.”
My heart stopped.
“But, let me explain to you why I have it on me. My boss's wife was pregnant. She's a very pretty woman with long red hair, and she suddenly got due for birth. He called me to drive him to the hospital and she was in bad labor so I had to assist him in carrying her. Whatever you smell, is probably her perfume.” He explained and I let out a sigh of relief.
I misunderstood him and almost accused him of cheating on me. I suddenly felt guilty as I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him tight.
“We should go to sleep, it's been a long night,” I suggested and he nodded as he got me off him and we walked inside the room together.
Another flaw, he's never tried to pick me up even though I weighed only 55kg. I wasn't complaining though, I loved him with all my heart no matter his flaws.
We went to bed and he fell asleep immediately. I watched as he slept peacefully and I decided to wrap my arms around him since he was fast asleep.
“Baby, no.” He mumbled sleepily and I quickly pulled my hands away. He hated cuddles just like he hated broccoli. I, on the other hand, craved cuddles like my life depended on it.
I turned around and hugged my plushie and in no time, I was fast asleep.
I woke up the next morning to an empty bed and a note that read: “You were sleeping so peacefully, I couldn't bring myself to wake you up. Do have a lovely day and miss me while I'm gone.”
Of course, I'll miss you. I giggled like a child as I held the note close to my chest. My phone buzzed and I picked it up to see a message from Emily.
“Come and open your damned door, I've been knocking for over twenty years!”
I chuckled as I scrambled off the bed and rushed to open the door. Emily stood outside the door with a disapproving look on her face and I grinned as I pulled her inside and hugged her tightly.
“I have great news, Emily,” I said excitedly as I pulled her to the chair and made her sit. She rolled her eyes at my enthusiastic expression as she crossed her arms over her chest, pushing her full t**s upward that I would have killed to have.
“What is it this time? Please tell me it's not about Jax.” She said in disapproval and I let out a deep sigh.
My best friend hates my boyfriend with all passion. She's never approved of our relationship. Jax says it's because she's still single and so she's jealous and wants to break us apart. That makes no sense though.
“Come on, Emily, what do you have against him anyway?”
“Nothing! I just don't like him.” She muttered and I pouted sadly. She noticed and sighed, raising her hand in surrender. “Fine, fine, what's the great news?”
“I have officially booked a spot in the largest cruise ship in Toronto for the holidays!” I said happily and for the first time today, her face brightened up and a smile formed on her face.
Emily rarely smiled. She was more like an Emo chick who had a hormonal imbalance. Don't get me wrong, I love my best friend just the way she was. We were the total opposite.
“I and Jax will be spending the holidays there,” I added and her smile vanished as quickly as it had appeared.
“Are you saying you did this for Jax? When are you going to finally open your eyes to see that you're the only one putting in effort for this man?” She asked in annoyance and I let out a sigh.
“It's his biggest wish! I had to do it for him as his very loving and understanding girlfriend.” I replied and I could see her clench her fists in anger.
“Has he ever tried to fulfill any wish of yours? Think, Rae!”
“Why are you so mad? Doing something for my boyfriend isn't such a bad thing!”
“Okay…” She took a deep breath as she crossed her arms. “How did you manage to do this? Where did you get the money to book something so expensive? I know you're not poor but an average citizen shouldn't be able to afford something so expensive!”
“Are you calling me poor?”
“Girl, answer my question!”
“I used my year's savings to do this,” I replied, a bit embarrassed now that I said it out loud.
“Are you f*****g stupid? You saved money the whole year just to do this for that dumb boyfriend of yours that ain't even loyal? Seriously, Rae?” She was disappointed, her every word dripped with disappointment and disapproval and I suddenly realized something.
Jax was right.
“You know what, maybe I'm stupid. Stupid for calling you my friend. Jax was right about you. You're just jealous because I'm taking Jax and not you.” I said in anger as I stood up and she let out a low chuckle as she stood up as well.
“Well, good luck with your dumb boyfriend. When your eyes finally open, I'll be waiting to tell you I told you so.” She said as she walked out the door and slammed it shut, leaving me all alone in the apartment.
