Alice woke up and found herself in a dark cramped space, where the silence was deafening. Where am I? she wondered. Did Jack put me here? She was standing up and the place was so cramped that she couldn’t even bend her knees or sit down.
The last thing that she remembered was being with Jack. She’d been backing away from him in fear. Using her hands, she traced the walls and the ceiling, but she couldn’t find a door. In fact, she suddenly realized, she couldn’t even find cracks in the wall where a door might be, through which light might trickle in.
Without bothering to look in any particular direction, Alice opened her mouth and began to scream. “Help!” she shouted. “Is there anybody out there?”
