The next morning the nurse came into the room with two breakfasts; one for Christina and the other for Byron. Christina was still asleep so the nurse put her food on the table at her side. Byron though was awake and hungry, so he thanked her for the food and began to stuff the food into his face.
After a sleepless night, Byron’s eyes were bloodshot and he had the beginnings of a beard growing on his chin. He looked unkempt, but he hardly cared. This was to be his last night with Christina and he was anxious to have it over with.
It was another hour before Christina awoke. She blinked a few times and then she adjusted the bed so that she could sit in an upright position. Eyeing the breakfast, she pulled the table close to herself and, without a word to Byron, she began to eat.
