Leaving William’s home, Lucy took a cab to Alice’s house. She knew that she should have called ahead but the truth of it was that she hadn’t known if she would actually go through with it and leave until the door had actually shut behind her.
After paying the taxi driver, Lucy nervously approached Alice’s home. She was nervous. She had not visited even once since she’d married William. Collecting her courage, she knocked on the door. From inside, Alice called, “Give me a minute. I will be right there.”
A moment passed and then the door opened, only, instead of Alice, it was her father who stood before her. Seeing Lucy, he wondered, “What are you doing here?”
"I missed you guys,” she replied, “so I decided to come back for an extended visit."
From the door, Lucy could see Avril and Hale
