Christina’s face turned red when Lucy surprised her by refusing to be the godmother to her child. It was not the kind of honor that people refused lightly and Christina was so embarrassed that she felt like she wanted to die. Alice couldn’t believe that she’d even asked though. Thinking about it, she was so angry that she wanted to slap Christina. She almost actually did, but Lucy stayed her hand.
“Fine,” Alice said as she lowered her hand. “I won’t hit her, but I think William should be here. I will call him now.”
Hearing Alice’s words, Christina and Byron’s faces drained of any color that they’d had. If William came here, Christina and Byron would be in big trouble – and they knew it!
“You don’t need to call William,” Christina said. “My proposal was just a joke.”
