Once Steven was gone, William felt quite awkward. After a few minutes, he told everyone that he had some work to do, and then he went upstairs. Once William was gone, Lucy saw no point in sticking around. As she grabbed her coat though, Vivian touched her arm and asked her if they could talk.
Lucy turned to Vivian and thought, When will this woman ever leave me alone?
Vivian turned to Elizabeth in a way that suggested this had been planned in advance and Elizabeth smiled at Nancy and said, “Let’s go into the other room and give these two some privacy.”
Nancy nodded and the two of them went into the next room. Jenny was still in the room, but she was playing on her phone and she had her headphones on. She was listening to Eminem and it was so loud that Lucy could make out the words –
