GRACE
When we reached home, the first thing I noticed was the overpowering smell of the tasty food that Aunt Alicia had cooked. Did I mention to you all one of my qualities, I’m the biggest food lover one could imagine. Like for me refusing the food someone is offering is like refusing a chance to stay alive. And the people who throw food are my biggest enemies.
As I entered the house, the first thing to welcome me was the delicious aroma of the food which made my heart do the happy dance and the second thing was my grandfather’s presence which made my heart want to cry. I didn’t notice his car outside the garage as I was as busy thinking about the food as I was starving already and waiting, we had a surprise guest between us.
Grandfather was sitting in the center of the table and beside her was Sophia, my cousin's sister. If one asks me about one person, I hate the most not hate but yes, the person I dislike the most is her.
She was the complete opposite of William and Elijah. While both of them treated me like I was a part of their family and like their own sister, she on the other hand made sure to remind me that I was an abomination to my family, that my birth brought shame to our family. She made sure that I remembered that I was never going to be a part of this family.
I remember during childhood she would purposely pick fights with me and then complain to our grandfather that I was bullying her. Even her mother, Aunt Blaire, would come and try to instigate grandfather against me.
You may not notice this when first meeting Sophia, but the fact she's arrogant and intolerant is just the tip of the iceberg. As if that's not enough she's also cruel, obnoxious, and insulting, but at least they're not as bad due to intertwined habits of being stable as well.
But focus on her as this is what she's purposely wanted. She always wanted to be in the limelight and if someone else was taking her attention then she would do anything to get back that. Multiple nights have ended in disaster because of this and her imprudence, which is too bad for all sides.
Fair is fair though; Sophia does have some rays of light. She's reliable and orderly if nothing else, it's not like we've encountered the devil.
Unfortunately, her intolerance is almost ever-present and ready to sour the mood.
Grandfather was busy talking with Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Alicia while Sophia was looking around the house. As we entered the house, everyone’s attention was on me and Elijah. I went to my room kept my bag on my side table and went downstairs to have lunch, a not-so-good lunch which could have been great if it wouldn’t have been for our special guests.
We were eating in silence, and I had yet not greeted Sophia, to not make the lunch more awkward Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Alicia were trying to have a small conversation but that was also a waste since nobody wanted to speak and nobody, I mean Elijah, me and grandfather.
But you know peace is not meant for me especially since we have a witch around us. She has to say something to make me lose my appetite.
‘Oh, my poor buffalo chicken wings, mini tostadas, and my lovely apple pie. You will be remembered.’ I said inside my head.
“So, grace did you gain the ability to shift? I heard it’s been almost five months to your 18th birthday and you have yet not attained your wolf?”
Bitch! I knew she was going to pick this topic and now that grandfather is also here, she is going to use this opportunity to her maximum benefit. But you know I wasn’t born yesterday to let her bully me just like in old times.
“Well, no, but how are you? I heard that you went through some surgery to enhance your beauty. You know we werewolves are visually gifted by the moon goddess and you going under surgery means the moon goddess forgot to give you the blessing. Don’t worry Sophia your mate will love you regardless of your face.” I said with a very innocent yet mocking tone.
The horrified expression she had on her face was enough to tell me that I won this battle.
Grace- 1
Sophia- 0
Elijah along with Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Alicia were trying their best to hold their laughter while stuffing food in their mouth. They all knew how Sophia treated me and have tried to tell this to Aunt Blaire but what will you expect from her when she is the one who is guiding her?
On the other hand, Grandfather was glaring at Sophia angrily because this was something she did without telling anyone but I got to know about this from Eva, who lives in the city now with Paul. During her visit to the hospital with one of our classmates she saw her and then told me about this, at first, I thought what should I do with this information but now I know that was a really good piece of info I got from Eva.
Thanks, my soul sister. I said while eating my food since I knew a very good drama was about to happen because I had already put oil in the flame and now the fire was about to erupt.
“What am I listening to Sophia? you did what?” Grandfather stood up from his chair angrily.
“No, grandfather it’s not like that she is lying. I have not undergone any surgery,” she said accusingly.
Wow, this girl surely has some great nerves, straight up lying on the face. I was silently sitting on the chair while folding my arms across my chest.
“Why will I get any surgery when I’m already this beautiful? Grandfather, believe me, I’m n-not l-lying to y-you.” There she goes using her crocodile tears for sympathy.
Meanwhile, Aunt Alicia asked Uncle Jeremy to calm down Grandfather otherwise this will get out of hand. So, he somehow calmed down Grandfather and Sophia went over to the guest room.
After lunch, I helped Aunt Alicia to clean up and help her wash the dishes. Uncle Jeremy and Grandfather were having some conversation regarding the Pack business. Elijah went to the city to get his suit which he got customized for the New Moon gathering.
Along with me, Elijah was also the one who had not found our mate. But unlike him I was not that excited instead I was feeling very weird, I didn’t know how to describe this feeling but what I was feeling was something I had never felt before. The weird tingling sensation on my skin was increasing as time passed and darkness was taking over the sky.
After completing our chores, I went to the living room where everyone was sitting. Grandfather and Uncle Jeremy finished their conversation and then Grandfather turned his attention towards me and Sophia.
“Grace, you are going to tomorrow’s event, right?” he asked with his normal emotionless voice.
Do I even have a choice? Even if I don’t find my mate at least I can enjoy the party with my friends and have a good celebration moreover this would be my first time visiting the Alpha’s house. So, I was going.
“Yes, grandfather,” I answered.
“Okay and take Sophia with you. She has also not found her mate yet and who knows she may find her mate during the gathering.”
What the f**k!! Ahh, can this go any worse? Like seriously I have to take this witch with me and I very well know she will try her best to humiliate me in front of others.
“Why? I mean why does she need to go with me? She can go on her own with Elijah. My friends are coming to pick me up.” I spoke with a clear hint of no in my voice that I didn’t want Sophia to go with me. And sorry Elijah for dragging you into this but, I have no other options.
“Leave it, grandfather. If Grace doesn’t want me to attend the event, then I won’t.” Sophia said using her fake innocent voice.
Seriously, when did I say that I don’t want her to attend the event I was just saying to attend on her own or go with Elijah. Why is she twisting my sentence?
“No. this is final she is going with you. You both are sisters and you should stay together, you can take her with you along with your friends.”
Ugh, now my day is ruined and I know this very well.
“And, I wanted to ask what are you wearing to the gathering? Have you selected any dress?” Grandfather asked.
“No, not yet. I was thinking of wearing the gown I bought one month ago. It's still new and I haven’t worn it once. So, I can wear that.”
“No way you are going to wear the old dress for such an important event. I have brought a dress for you it’s in your room check that and wear that one to the event. You are my granddaughter and you need to show some class and elegance. You simply can’t just wear some old rags to an auspicious event.” He said with disappointment.
“Okay.” That’s all I said since arguing with him was pointless and I was already exhausted today with so many events happening together especially now that Sophia is here, her presence is enough to make me want to puke.
At night I started to feel a weird sensation in my body, I was not able to sleep I don’t know what was happening to me but I was surely not feeling well. I got out of bed and stood in front of the window. I couldn’t see the moon since today was the full moon day.
My body started to feel itchy so I thought of taking a shower since that might be the reason why I was not able to sleep. I took the shower but while taking the shower I noticed some changes in my body. My body felt fuzzier than normal and I was having the urge to go for a run. This was the first time I was feeling something like this. Even my face looked a little bit different and my eyes were shining. I swear at one point I saw something appear in my eyes like a little dreamwork silver.
I was surely going to lose my mind and I need to go for a run since tomorrow morning is going to be very busy so it would be better if I go for a run now, it will calm down my nerves and I’ll be able to sleep also.
I went outside of our house silently since I didn’t want to wake anyone up in the middle of the night. As I got out of the house and wore my shoes I was holding them in my hands. After wearing my shoes, I started running, I felt free, the cold breeze was touching my skin giving me chills yet giving me the feel of being alive. I thought of going upwards towards the forest.
The forest was gigantic, thick, and primal. Its canopy was dominated by magnolia, rowan, and poplar, which let through enough dancing beams of the fireflies for a diversity of plants to burst from the crunchy layer of leaves below.
Quiet branches drooped from every tree, and a medley of flowers, which were found in the quietest places, were a welcome change in the otherwise jade scenery.
A cacophony of wild noises, predominantly those of foraging beasts, reverberated through the air and were in harmony with the trickling sounds of a gentle river stream.
As I went deeper inside the forest, I suddenly felt someone’s presence over there other than me. I couldn’t particularly see anything because of darkness but I could smell someone’s scent. He or she was just a distance away from me. As I went near the scent, I recognized it as a male scent and it was not of a werewolf which I can say.
I didn’t know what to do, since, I didn’t have a wolf so I didn’t know whoever it was if I would be able to fight him or not, and in no way was, I going to run away from here. I have never considered myself weak just because I don’t have a wolf that doesn’t mean I can’t fight. And what if the person is here to harm the people of our pack? No, I need to do something.
