Midnight run

846 Words
It was midnight. Ever since I became the omega I always went for a midnight run. Right now I was running through the woods. I jumped over logs, weaved through trees. I ran. When I run, I feel free. Like no-one could ever hurt me, all my pain was just a pup's bad dream. I felt like I was protected. Snap! I stopped and looked around me. I was in the heart of our territory. I smelled the air. It was a wolf, one that wasn't in our pack, actually there were many. One I realized that there were several of them I turned tail and ran back to camp as fast as I could. "Wake up! Everybody wake up!" I howled. My mother rushed out of the alpha den over to me, my father followed slowly, angry I had woken him up. "What is it?" He asked gruffly. "I was out on my nightly run, father, there are intruders on the pack's territory!" I told him. At that he looked around and started getting the strongest wolves together. For a moment he looked at me as if wondering if he should pick me to go, but he turned around and left the camp, following my scent trail with the others trailing him. I looked down at the ground, why should I expect him to pick me? I'm the weakest one in the pack, that's why I'm omega after all. I thought bitterly to myself as i turned around and walked to my den. After a very long time of waiting for my father to return with the fighters, my mother came up to me. "Midnight, you may not think you are strong, but you are the strongest wolf in the pack, your father being gone this long with ask of the best fighters has me worried, please go after them. Go find your father, Sr if him and the others are alright," she practically begged me. I nodded at my mother. I got up and flowed the scent trail. I didn't get far when I was attacked. I howled as loud as I could. I was still close enough to the den for them to hear me. The other wolf out his paw on my neck to keep me from making anymore noise, and to keep me pinned down. I heard my mother shouting orders to the pack, but then there was growling. Not too long after I heard a shriek/wine that got cut off. My mother was dead. "Move in" I heard the woof pinning me down say, "tell Talik I have his younger sister subdued," he ordered. The wolves around us surged into the camp. I heard the last sounds most of my oak would ever make. One thing was for sure, Talik was behind this. I heard my sister growl out, "Talik! What are you doing!? No! Stay back!" Then fighting. Not too long later I heard my sister's last wine. I closed my eyes tightly. I wanted to escape, to run away, but I couldn't. I heard paws coming towards us and stop a few feet away, "hello, alpha" the wolf holding me said. "Shade, let her up, she won't fight, and go get the others," I heard Talik tell the wolf holding me down. I kept my eyes closed and didn't move until I was sure he was gone. I opened my eyes and sat up, looked at Talik and asked, "why? Why did you do this?" He laughed. "Oh dear little sister, you never did notice anything, did you? You should know as well as I do. You were treated weirder than I ever was, I'll give you a choice, join me or be forced out of the territory. If you don't join me, little sis, you mask not survive being chased out," he laughed. " I will..." I started, he grinned, "never join you!" His grin turned into a scowl. At that moment his followers got back. I stood up tall. I looked at all of them. They grinned. I was scared, but, they can kill a whole pack, but if even one is left, that pack still lives on, in that one wolf. "Might wanna start running sis" Talik said menacingly. I took his advice and fled. Only when I started running did I realize that the wolf, Shade, made my paw sprain when he tackled me. Talik's followers were soon at my heels. I was close to the border. I wolf jumped on my back, making me fall. I shook him off and snapped at his throat. I did not miss. I grabbed on and ripped. Another wolf attacked my thigh, making a deep gash. Another took hold of my ear and ripped it. Talik cam out of no where and made quite, gash right above my right eye. "Enough, she likely won't survive with those wounds, let her go" Talik said and walked off. I limped across the border, and continued for several minutes, until I collapsed. Darkness blurred my vision, and then pitch black.
